I've driven/owned several FWD cars with winter tires and the only advantage I've witnessed is the ability to slightly out accelerate a RWD car with equal tires. Realistically it comes down to braking and turning which has very little to do with RWD. FWD or AWD.

Ultimately the best scenario would be to have an AWD with winter tires.
