Tiptronic

As my father and I have been discussing the gearbox and the tiptronic mode, we have not come to an agreeable conclusion.
What we were discussing, was the gearbox, how it can be damaged and what is optimal for it.
So the question -

1) Personally this is what I wanted to know. Will upshifting early (1500-2000rpm) damage the gearbox or engine? Or is there no problem with it?
The reason I wanted to know is because most of the time I will try and get to 5th/6th as quickly as possible to save petrol (I do not floor it from low rpms). My father personally thinks that this will damage the gearbox in the long run, but I disagree.

2) What is the optimal rev to upshift/downshift while cruising on main roads? (60-80km/h)
Personally I like to shift at about 4000rpm if I'm not caring about fuel economy and for downshifting, I understand that the gearbox/clutch automatically rev matches for you so there shouldn't be a problem with that (I hope).

Discuss.
