Most of my car documents which came directly from the factory state that my car is a 2012 model year "M1" (I know lots of others also have this kind of documentation) so BMW public relations (or whatever department which got obssessed about the museum piece M1) could go as far as the documentation department did and make it happen anyway; our cars indeed are "2011-2012 model E82 M1"s, period! No big deal and nothing to be shy of also, imo.

Having said that, taking care of labeling into your own hands is always hillarious. There is a M badge at the back already like the Z3 M and Z4 M had in the past and that is more than OK for me, as long as "1M" is a real M car and it definitely is one and also an exceptionally good one, so why would anyone care about having a badge of M1 or 1M or just M or no badge at all, makes no difference. In fact actual M badge tells it all about this car because 1M represents what "M" is supposed to be
