Every M car gets its own unique attention, which includes its own unique engine. This thing needs a naturally aspirated inline 6. Look at the E46 M3, you're telling me they couldn't take the 3.2L engine and improve upon it? (efficient dynamics, right?). The 1 M is boring. They should have just called it the 135i w/ competition package and charged an extra 5k for it.
I don't think their sales are going to look very good on this one. If anything, more 135's will be sold as a result.

Don't forget better brakes, wider track and tires, suspension from the M3, quad exhaust, redesigned front end with bigger air scoops, modified N55 that will be the basis for the next M3 engine....
What else do people want to realize this is a real M car?
The sharing of bits is a GOOD thing, because it will save the company money and make the cars cost less....
