I received my Perf Grilles today. I read the whole thread and decided to do the 'yank gently' method- no right angles, no torx screwdrivers.
I did so with trepidation but as others have said, grab two fins on each side of each grille (I wore gloves to get some grip and prevent the fins from cutting into my skin) and gently pull, wiggling from side to side. You'll hear each tab unclip and it'll pull out. No breaks, no chipped paint etc.
The new ones just snap in easy-peasy... : )
