The E36 M3 had a rear plastic defuser and so did the E46 Sedan with the Sport Pkg. (pre-facelift).
BTW, I feel the profile and the rear are the car's strong suit. My 0.02, the front sucks! I have never like the front end of the 1-Series. The headlights are too large almost bug eyed and I was hoping BMW AG would change them on the coupe to differentiate it from the hatches. I am certain the car will be a hoot to drive, but interior size my be an issue for me as I have a growing child.
