Leave the Evo X n Get a 135i?
Im new on the forum, and have been getting sick of the rattles and disappointment that comes with owning an Evo. I was going to do a pole but I know how it will turn out lol. I am hoping some of you may have expirience coming from an Evo to the 135i. I would be buying a used one, so probably an 09. I love the Evo but for a DD it kind of sucks.
Any Pro's/Con's would be helpful. Ive searched but only found Mustang and Sti comparisons. |

Handling wise, especially on a track, the Evo will shit all over the 1er. Straight line performance, refinement, build quality, daily-driverability, the 1er takes the cake.
Are you looking for any specific pros/cons? If so feel free to ask

Welcome to the site!
The Evo X was #1 on my list for my next car, but my getting shipped here to Germany threw a wrench into that plan. Evo X's are more expensive and harder to get here. The 135i was #2, and Im happy with my choice. Sure its not as much of a track monster as the Evo X, but its not a slouch and has the get-up-n-go I wanted. Just for the record, the 135i rattles too, all cars do. |

Test drove the evo x. Good power, great handling, good styling, but beat the living crap out of me on every bump. In my mind that would have gotten really old really fast, so it was not the daily driver for me.
Oh and ahhh... don't know if the OP is single and a guy or not, but if he is... go with the bimmer |

i've never owned an evo x, but i had one to drive for about a week. it is definitely more raw than the 135i, not as refined, louder, cheaper looking interior, etc. i personally think the 135i/335i are worlds better than the evo or even sti for that matter. it's MUCH cheaper to make large hp/tq gains on the bmw's, plus rwd>awd IMHO. overall, besides the similar performance of the two cars, the 135i is in a completely different league than the mitsu

I come from a heavily modded evo9 to a 128i. The evos in general suck as daily drivers. Track and even straight line are great in evos. Basicly unlimited modding, insane amounts of WHP, and endless aftermarket. I was tired of all the maintenance turboed cars need. Thats why i chose the 128i. I did not even test drive a 135i because i know i would have probably chose that.
If you dont plan on heavily modding then go with the 135i. More comfort and better looking. |

Yeah I am really just concerned with missing the Evo.
Mine is 400whp and dropped about $8k into the car. After looking at AMS stage 3 kit I could have 450whp and more tq than I do now for almost half the price. I dont track the Evo but I do drag race. I know all cars have some rattle or squeaks but lol I have a vibration and it just is the most annoying thing. on a side note I am not married but do have a gf. lol no kids so 135i would be fine as of space |

I came from an Evo X... drove it for 2 years, loved it in the winter, hated it in the summer cause it being a 4 banger didnt have the torque to get up and go with the AC on. I was modded and was making about 350whp, took about $2k to make that power, the car was faster than my 1 currently. I will be getting the 1 tuned on monday (yes a real tune, not a piggy back or auto tuning piggy back)... I'll let you know what i think.
As far as daily drivability the 1 kills the X. raw track fun = x. Taking the 1 to road atlanta in a couple months so i'll let you know... |

If you're not tracking you're not really using the Evo for all it's potential but living with all the crappy stuff about it. BMW's are awesome in that you get luxury on the inside (for the most part) and a beast under the hood. However, if you just drag race and don't track, maybe you should consider a new Mustang GT also. Even though it's not a slouch on the track (much better than the older ones), it's probably better served as a street racer and much less expensive.

Thanks guys...
I havent considered the Z4M yet, Michigan winters will not help with the 2 seater convertable. I did that already with a S2000 And I thought about the mustang but I see those as much as I see Mcdonalds here in Michigan. So about every 2 miles |

My only advice is to make sure you will be happy with the 135i's soft stock suspension and open differential. Suspension upgrade plus M3 bushings plus limited slip diff is very expensive.

135i doesn't have a stock LSD though, so expect to spend a grand on upgrading that unless you get a 1M..

I like both. My good friend has an EVO X and I had the 135. The 135 was faster in straights but in twisties the EVO X was faster. The EVO X engine in stock form feels so restricted.

I owned one from 2008 - 2010 I got so tired of the evo x and all the warranty issues and the build quality. The bmw is much nicer, its faster in a straight line, and more comfortable to drive day to day.

^ Was you evo just the HKS Stage 1? Only reason I ask is Ive got a FP Red Evo X and I know Ill miss that power difference. I wanted to look up AMS Stage 3 and see what the comparisons would be.
My girlfriend actually likes the looks of my Evo better but I think once she rides in the BMW she will change her mind. How much is an LSD? I think it would be an essential with Michigan winters for me. |

Honestly at that point I would just keep the EVO X and add an E46 M3. Theyre so cheap. You can have both cars for cheaper then the 135 itself. I liked my 1er as a daily but by no means it's a sport car or any special car. It does everything right but nothing amazing aside from the amazing braking system. It sounds ok, it's fast, handles ok.
