128i M-Sport Square Setup
Purchasing a 2009 128i M-Sport in a few days and know I will need new tires.
Want to go square 225/45/17 on the stock rims. Will I be able to rotate between all four corners or will offset and/or different wheel width (7" vs 7.5") prohibit that? Appreciate the help. Thanks |

A 225 tire will act differently on a 7" wheel versus a 7.5". There will be known differences in response and handling on the front versus rear wheels even though you're running a square setup. Make sense? |

Does make sense, thanks.
So no real way to rotate all four corners on the stock wheels, on both 128/135i I guess. Short of purchasing new wheels, do most guys just rotate side to side? |

As well, even if you think of an all-season tire that is unidirectional, flipping it to the other side won't change anything since you're wearing on the same side. Best way to do it would to actually dismount the tire and rotate it to the same wheel and remount. So now you're wearing on the different edge of the tire. You can still run them, but would I recommend it? No. I run Hankook Venus V12 Evo2 tires. I got a set for $320 ($80 Hankook Rebate). They are awesome tires for the price and enough to handle daily driver duties. I have separate tires for the track. At that price, I don't worry about rotation or flipping. They are disposable to me. |

I'm a Canadian Msport so on 18's but basically the same situation, 71/2 fronts and 81/2 rears. Using Sumitomo HTRZ3's in 225/40/18 all around and they work great, street & light autoX. Found the stock 215/245 setup didn't have enough grip in front and too much for the 128 in the rear- lots of understeer. The 225's have much better balance. These tires are non-directional so can be rotated side to side only. Spinning in the opposite direction supposedly evens tire wear, prolongs tire life. Going to give Tire Rack a shout to see if that's actually the case.

Still going to go square, but prolly won't be able to rotate.
Thinking between Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric All Season and Continental ExtremeContact DWS All Season. Anyone out there with either set that can provide some feedback? |

I went square 225/45R17 with Michelin Pilot A/S 3's and like them a lot. I do rotate the wheels but I take care to keep the 7" wheels together on one axle and the 7.5" on the other axle. I've had no issues with this rotation pattern.
