Any future plans on the 1 series coming in diesel form?

I've got the patience, but haven't read anything other than the 3series diesel. I'm very interested in what's to come !

But I still love how the 1 series look.

ugh... people in this country, and that includes the EPA, etc. are too dumb to embrace diesel...

Id love a 118d that gets 50 MPG or so... alas, we will likely never see it...

It really depends how successful the 3series diesel turns out IMHO.

Its b/c people are still weary of them. Having a Diesel in a sport sedan dosent sound very appealing. Big trucks still come to mind. I mean look at VW with their TDI. They have a loyal following that took many years to develop. BMW has a lot of work to do. If they could only get someone to test drive it. All the rags are in absolute awe. Even I need to go check it out. I want to see what 400lb of torque on tap feels like in everyday situations.

Ditto. My dealer told me the 3d just isn't selling.

the 3d isnt selling because despite great reviews, the average joe buyer isnt going to reap many of the benefits, such as longevity... and while they want to be "green" they dont understand the benefits of a diesel vs., say a prius. Plus, the cost isnt compelling.

I personally think that a 318 or 118d would be of huge benefit, as opposed to a massively overpowered diesel 335d. Get us 50 MPG and folks are talking because the fuel savings are compelling, with still loads of torque and get-up and go... They are trying too hard to make a sports car, and not hitting the economic bogey or the sports bogey... at least to the masses.

My wife wants an x5 diesel. At 26 mpg, thats pretty decent... however, Id still rather get 30 MPG and be a bit slower.

Most people vote their pocket-book even if they like to think of themselves as green.

Since the avg consumer in the US drives about 12K miles, even at $5 per gallon and assuming you could get diesel for the same price as gas (you can't anymore) you're talking about a savings of about $300 per year for +4mpg. Hard to justify the additional expense of a luxury diesel vehicle, especially with a loss of performance.

The main reason the Prius took off in California was the carpool lane incentive, not better gas mileage and green technology.

they picked the wrong diesel engine imo. its a great engine and all but they shoulda picked the smaller turbo charged 4 diesel engines for introduction of diesel to the US market...

exactly... however people have little analytical skill and think they are racecar drivers at all times... so a 4-cyl is not on many folks' list, unfortunately.

Gas prices dropping didn't help the 3-Series diesel as well.

I guess I will gear myself towards a home.

I had thought the diesel was a more 'green', most of all a more MPG friendly vehicle. I know most don't care, but I don't want to see BMW consolidate and turn into a shitty Toyota.

All I want is a 1, w/ better MPG. I could honestly care less about diesel, though it does open doors. hehe. Not there so I explored the 3, given our hell hole economy, it wouldn't be too wise to jump.

But, mr. socialistic obama has put regulations so maybe...

thanks for the thoughts.

well, they could have put an updated M42/M44 into a 118i and I'd be happy... It would be like a newer, two-door version of my current DD (and about 1000# heavier!)
