It'd be easier to weld in a replacement pipe than cutting the CAT out, gutting and welding back in...

Your local muffler shop should be able to do this for less than ~$100. I wouldn't recommend gutting it yourself.

I actually gutted them myself and took a little more than an hour. I first unbolted the midlife down and with a grinder cut right on the point where they welded the cats on. I then used a bucket and placed the pipe with the cat facing up an with a drill began to bore it out. After some time, you should be able to just chip away with a hammer and flathead screwdriver. Make sure you wear a mask though because a lot of dust gets thrown around. After collecting all of the cats material in the bucket, I put the two pieces back together on the ground, tack welded it, put it back on the car to make sure that alignment was good, brought it back down and fully welded around. Repeat for the second pipe. In all, it was not hard at all and I would def recommend this over paying someone to if you have the tools. It would be hard to weld in pipe if you don't have the right tools because there is a slight bend in each pipe so this is definitely the easiest way to go about it.....
Let me know if you have any questions...
