Oil drips

6 years and 62K on my 2009 135i and the first real problem. Pulled it out of the garage and found fresh oil drips on the ground.

Oil filter housing, valve cover gasket? Seems like it would be a significant leak to pool and drip through onto the floor. Oil change 2K ago, oil level still reads full. Looking in the front of the engine, I see lots of oil on hoses and can see it on the floor of the underbody tray, but it was not obvious to me where it was coming from.

Will take it to my local independent for diagnosis.

See oil around the oil filler cap? Could be OFHG, OFCG, VCG, turbo seals are also a likely culprit, but you wouldn't see it on the hoses up top. Could also be a bad hose FWIW.

Pictures would be good if you want anything out of us. GL!

My advice would be to clean up everything the best you can. Wipe any oil sludge you see and monitor for leaks. Make sure you pull off the belly pan under the engine and wipe up everything there too. Then get pics.

If there is a case of bad turbo seals + rattling, do you think that's a good enough reason for BMW to honor the extended warranty?

The turbo warranty extension only refers to wastegate malfunction (rattle). Turbo seal leaks are unrelated to the additional coverage.

No oil around the filler cap. Here are some pictures of what I could see dirty.

Unfortunately can't get into my indy until after the holidays.

^^Could be a boost leak from your charge pipe or DV(diverter valves). Turbo(s) are on the other side of the engine(passenger side).

I agree with what ShocknAwe said.

These pdf's might help you out...

Ehh.. Take off your chargepipe, swab the inside. Bet it's covered in oil.

That would be a start. But only based on that one picture.

Update, finally got it into my indy shop. The usual culprits -- oil filter housing and oil cooler.

Had same issue and just got my Oil Filter Housing Gasket and my Oil Cooler Gasket replaced at 65k miles. My symptoms were a few drips making their way down past the belly pan/splash shield on the passenger side, right near the water pump, but no visible leaks from above. Once my mechanic got everything taken apart, he said there was oil covering everything on the front of the engine.

The oil cooler is a sneaky one... It'll slowly work its way down and make a huge mess if not caught quickly. Mine started up leaking around 75k.
