Noise like fax machine while ignition off

I have a 128i and even when I get into the car after it's been parked for the night there is an electronic hum/noise that I can hear. Anyone else have this? I found in the threads people having this sound from the computer still running after the car is shut off, but this is a cold engine.

Yea, there are a couple people that have posted about it. I have had it happen once. Parked the car, didnt get back into it for over 24hrs. When I did, before even putting the key in, I could hear the noise. No matter how many times I restarted, fiddled with the radio, etc, it wouldnt go away. Had to drive like that for an hour, then randomly within 10min after getting home, it quit and has never returned.

The radio was all quiet when it happened too, so I couldn't drown it out with music.

My car does it too at times. Always after shutting down with a hot engine. I think it is the electric water pump. And... I think this sound is normal to "our cars".

possibly fuel pump preparing to start the car? My audi does the same thing. when I unlock it, you can hear about 3 seconds of mechanical hum. my bmw does this too, I hear it when the comfort access unlocks the doors.

if its what I think it is, its the cd player. eject the cd out of the dash, and the noise stops.

I was finishing up a wash this weekend and popped the hood to dry up the channels around the engine bay and clean the engine plastic and noticed a short "bzzzzzzrrrrr" that was repeating every 10 seconds or so. Eventually I closed up the hood and it stopped shortly after that. Not sure if this is related to what you were hearing but it sounds similar to what you've described.

I have the same thing on my car

But i think there is a link with the efficient dynamic brake regeneration.

I have this all the time. I hit the unlock button in the morning, I hear a buzz. After driving the car, when I lock it, a few seconds later it'll buzz. When Im working on the car or washing it, it will buzz periodically. No clue what it is.
