Almost a Bad Day to Drive the 1M to Work.

My 1M is my DD and today was almost the worst day to drive it to work. This morning the Houston metropolitan area was under a severe weather alert and receive 1" to 3" of rain. Luckily the rain stopped around 1PM and the water started to recede. Here are a few iPhone pictures I took during lunch. All the streets surrounding my office were flooded.

what's to blame for all the flooding? topography, lack of proper drainage, or both? i've been in houston for a few years and notice that it floods easily when it rains. glad that it wasn't your "worst" day though!

Yikes! I would have been walking home if the water had not receded!

At least you have the MDX for rainy days

Houston is flat as a board. Nowhere for the water to go (quickly).

I believe most of the flooding is due to poor drainage as a result of lack of maintenance of the storm sewers. It's a good thing the rain stopped otherwise the 1M would have overnighted at the office and the wife would have played taxi with the MDX.

Ah good luck to everyone trying to get home, should have subsided by now hopefully.

Yup I'm at 288 and 610 and things got pretty bad over here. Luckily I got to work early... and just in case it is still bad out there I'm leaving the 1m here and the x3 will be my ticket home.

Houston's notorious for this sort of thing. I remember when my store was on Shepherd water would come up to the window it was like the street was a huge fish tank!

I thought the city had been doing something about it?

flat topography... parched soil that water literally runs off of... poor drainage... poor construction... etc... DFW is the same... Certain parts of town just are not designed well and major flooding occurs whenever there is a persistent all day type rain.
