Need diagnosis dunlop Ziii wear at the track
Over 4 years with dunlop ZII's, i did maybe 10 autocross event and 6 or 7 track nights, and they still had half their tread. Had to get rid of them because they got too hard.
So this spring I got new dunlop ZIII's because I really liked the ZII's. I've only done 3 track nights, and i have a weird wear pattern on the front right. This wear seems mostly from a track night i did a Dominion Raceway in Virginia. It was ~93 degrees, and my tires were 40-45psi. I have a similar wear patter on the front left, just much less pronounced, and the rears don't look that bad. Definitely, rotating front to rear for my last event of the season. Anyway, just wondering why i'm having this wear pattern. (2010 bmw 128i 92k miles, -2.0 camber with plates on a stock suspension)

The center rib of my Z2 ss tend to look like that- the edge wears down and narrows the rib. Your pressures are 40 psi? I would not run anything more than 35 hot. I find mine happiest around 32-33.
Good luck with the z3 - my z2 ss are calling it quits after some 8 days with at least 3 more worth of tread. Z3 will probably be my next set. |

As far as reducing shoulder wear, at -3 and greater neg camber, and zero toe it wears pretty even. That said the center rib on my z2ss gets pretty chewed up compared to the rest of the tire, maybe just a product of pressure getting too high before i have a chance to bleed it |

Yeah, probably a little less air, and you need more camber. Without that, your tires will never wear evenly. It is weird how the center rib is almost pefectly split, and looking like layers are flaking off though. I do not recall seeing that before. The center rib usually has a pretty pronounced bevel on camber challenged cars, but this is different. Probably a combination of the tire pressure and heat.

More camber, less tire pressure.
Beyond that, it's partially normal. RE71R do the same thing, it's part of their charm.

Def lower your tire pressure I was maybe 28-29 pressure cold... it makes a big difference from running 40psi. Last edited by beattiecj; 02-05-2019 at 10:35 AM.. |
