2006 M Roadster - 65k miles
I just bought a 2008 135i Sport manual (street) and a 2011 128i M Sport manual (will build it for track/street). I can't fit 6 cars (the two 1 series, e92 M3, Cayman S Sport w/ a custom built 4.0 engine, Tundra TRD Offroad and this beautiful M Roadster) in a 3 car garage . I have no choice but to let go this beautiful M Roadster to free up some garage space and some funds to build out the 128i. This beautiful roadster has the well known S54 engine (8.2k redline). 200 lbs. lighter than an e46 M3. Quick ratio CSL steering rack, CSL brake system. It is in like-new condition. Current odometer reading @64929. Very well maintained. Clean title and no accidents. I have 1.5” worth of service records (see photo). I purchased this beautiful roadster in Oct 2020 at 59k miles from another BMW car enthusiast. Both he and I are very meticulous in keeping up with maintenance and logging all service records. Since this is not a daily driver, I only put 5k miles since my ownership. This car comes with the following mods. Including the mileage when the mods were done: - @43000 Back up camera with GROM USB interface @43000 - @47780 Paint correction prior to 3-layer ceramic coating. The front end of the car is wrapped w/ protective film. - @49800 Tint front windshield and rear window with CR70 - @59680 Modified OEM mufflers. Removed and shortened internal baffled pipes for better flow and sound - @60800 Installed AFE mid-pipe. Further improving exhaust note and better throttle response Maintenance - @47133 Replaced transmission mounts with Rogue Engineering transmission mount. - @41733 Replaced transmission fluid with Royal Purple Max Gear 75W-90 - @47100 oil change - @49835 alignment - @54572 replaced alternator - @55559 oil change - @57808 new tires. New set of Michelin PS4S 245-40-18 front and 265-40-18 rear - @59562 alignment - @60558 valve adjustments - @60650 oil change (Liqui-Moly 10w60) transmission fluid change (Red Line MTL) - @60800 differential fluid change (Red Line 75w90 Gear Oil) - @63913 replaced front rotors and f/r pads. Flush and bleed brake fluid with Motul 660 brake fluid - @64675 oil change (Liqui-Moly 10w60) By the way, I only tracked this car twice. Both times at Laguna Seca with laptime of 1:46.1, not bad for a stock car with street tires. This car is easy to drive fast. Tankertoad,
No. My Cayman S Sport is an ‘08. It has an M97 engine is known to some reliability issues particularly track used, common concerns like IMS (Intermediate shaft) failure, bore scoring. 981 has a 9A1 engine which was introduced on 2009 987.2 and other Porsche models. 9A1 engine doesn’t work in my car unless I spend $$$. It is a more reliable engine than the m97. In my case, I got lazy with oil change and didn’t change the oil after 2 events. Rod bearing failure at the 3rd event. I should know better. I’ve been doing DE, time trials, club racing etc for 21 years. Got lazy and complacent. Learned a $30k lesson. I’m changing oil after every event since then. $30k is what I paid to get a 4.0l custom built engine from a Carrera S core, larger bore steel sleeves, JE pistons, Carillo rods, ARP bolts. My engine costs more than this z4m. The new engine still in break in period and I am still using the cayman s 3.4l ECU with Softronic tune. It runs soooo smoothly since all the internal components are forged, lighter and stronger. It’s more powerful than the 981 GT4 engine (3.8l). After break in, I will switch to the Carrera S ECU per the builder suggestion. And do a dyno. Right now, it doesn’t matter since I am driving below 4K rpm. The current map is more than sufficient. I plan to build this cayman out even further, since it’s a Sport Limited Edition, it holds its value It comes with Porsche OEM performance upgrade like PASM, PSE, Sport Chrono etc. it has the same 997 GT3 interior. I also have all the standard aftermarket mods, GT3 throttle body, IPD plenum, headers, tune, and a lot of suspension upgrades including GT3 controller arms, sway bars, toe links, drop links…. Next is Ohlins coilovers, light weight sport seats, roll bar, steering wheel, light weight battery…. That’s why I need to sell the z4m to fund the build Last edited by racer_951; 01-27-2022 at 11:33 PM.. |

Reminds me of my '06 M Roadster. I sold it to finance a new GT500, and have regretted it many times. Even though I modded the M extensively, it was always a great driver. The GT500 was far over-powered, actually dangerous whenever the roads were the least bit wet.
If you do sell it, you should consider BaT. You will do a lot better with a car in this condition with relatively low miles. And nice Cayman, by the way. |
