Stripped bolt in brake caliper?
Has anybody had a stripped bolt in one of their brake calipers? My dealer noted that one of the brake caliper bolts is corroded and stripped on a recent inspection. Just wondering if that is something common and if the easy solution is replacement of the bolt or if the whole caliper might be bad.

I just had this same exact problem. My rear left caliper would not stop bleeding during a brake flush, and I thought that I just had a bad nipple. Grabbed a brand new one from the store, put it on, but it still kept bleeding. I took the caliper off, inspected the threading, even had a couple mechanics take a look at it. I ended up having to buy a new caliper.
Hopefully you won't have to. My luck got even worse when I found out that the rear left caliper was backordered nationwide, and I would have to wait for one to come from Germany. Luckily a forum member had one to sell to me, which should be coming in this week! |

That really sucks. What bolt was it? I've had a slider strip on me before, but those are easy replaced as long as it doesn't do any damage to the caliper itself.

Material? If the female threads are stripped, they can be fixed. You just drill out the threads, thread for an insert and then put the insert in (with permanent locktite).
