High Performance Octane Boost?
I was at Autobahn today and enquired about High Octane Fuel. I was recommended Wynn's Race Formula which is High Performance Octane Boost. The salesman said it was the best from personal experience. All I do is mix this into fuel tank and I get up to 8 units extra octane rating.
Has anybody used this product and is it safe to use? Here is the link: http://www.wynns.net/retail_raceformula.aspx |

JohnnyR135 was using octane booster and it messed up his spark plugs. I would stay away.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...k+plugs&page=3 I couldn't get any further because the link was dead from the site merger. Note they said it will negate warranty work if you use contaminated gas or race fuel. Pretty shitty coincidence since we all are ticking time bombs for a bad HPFP. I just got my first long crank today.

What you have to realize... is when they say 8 points... they mean: 0,8 octane more! You have to read the fine print though. This stuff is just not worth it IMHO.
Why not look in your yellow pages for "race gas" - to get the real stuff. It will be $$$ though! One other thing to remember... is when you use a fuel injector cleaner like Techron or STP or what ever... they typically lower the octane ratting. When I would use them in my 944 Turbo I could hear the engine ping when I would stomp on it. Not good. Good Luck, David |

I just returned the Octane Booster at Autobahn. The sales guy said everything under the sun to try and make me keep it. Things like "mate I know people who work for BMW and this won't hurt your car....blah blah blah" and "this won't do anything to your spark plugs trust me I've worked on plenty of BMW's I know all of them... blah blah blah". As soon as he went on like that he lost all his credibility. I just wanted my money back and to leave. He didn't even know my car was twin turbo!! :P
I'm so glad that these forums exist and I was able to learn that this might be harmful to my engine. Some people act like they know everything but really have no idea. |

I've heard some of these boosters actually have a negative effect, and power is lost. it's not worth the money. think about it this way too, a tank of race gas is going to cost extra, however, that octane booster which has next to no potency, probably cost as much extra as it would have been to fill with race fuel in the first place. Maybe even more.
so save money, put in 4L/1gal of race fuel and you'll go up at least that .8 octane. and it will cost less. |
