Lowering springs and spacers

Hi,

I'm new here.

Would like to know if there are lowering springs (no need for coilovers for me) available and what's the drop they give? Any of you using spacers and what's the maximum size that can be used on the 1M?

If you must use lowering springs only, get the Eibach kit and use the fronts only. The rear of the 1M is low enough, any lower with progressive rate spring will reduce compression travel to a point that you will be almost riding on the bump stops.

You can get a away with a 5mm front and 10mm rear spacers.

You will need to get the M3 version of the Eibach pro kit.

A properly designed spring kit will have 1M specific application. I am sure Eibach will come up with a kit soon.

Although the suspension parts are mostly carried over from M3, 1M's wheel base (104.7" vs 108.7"), weight (3362 lb vs 3704 lb), and therefore handling characteristics are quite different than the M3, so don't just get the M3 version.

The difference will be minimum.

What brand of spacers would you recommend? Are the coming with everything needed to make it work... longer studs, etc?

i would skip with the springs and save up/hold off for a proper coilover suspension. an updated set of springs will wear your shocks out sooner than later. even though the spring rate of the m3 is pretty damn close to that of the 1M i would wait for a 1M specific rate. when it comes to spacers i have yet to take measurements on my car but i would do a 8-10mm and a 10-12mm

Ok thank you very much.

Let me know when you've mesured/tested spacers on your car. I know 5 and 10 will work as told earlier. Let me know if you think wider will still work without rubbing.

Wheel removal for spacers

When removing the rear wheel on a 2011 135i to install spacers, is there a need to mess with or disengage the Tire Pressure Monitor System?

As soon as my 90 mm wheel studs from Vorslag Motor sports come next week I plan to go out in the driveway and play with spacers. I have Rouge Engineering 12 mm spacers and an old 18 mm H&R set from a E36 M3. I Plan to try them with some 18" wheels with 265 35 track tires with a square setup from my E46 M3. I can't do much other than try them on because I only have 2 of my track wheels. The other 2 are in North Carolina with my son. I want to see if it is worth the effort & expense to get them up here. If it is not too hot, I will do it as soon as the studs arrive next week and take pictures.


BtW I would advise getting Studs. It is so much easier to change tires with them. Since I am a lady, I don't have the strength to slap the tires on with bolts. I use the studs with the 19 mm Alloy wheel nuts from Rogue Engineering. These are longer than the usual nuts. I have SSR wheels and the opening are very tight. Also they don't rust. Another thing about the Rogue Engineering spacers is they have a place for you to pry them off with a screw driver head. Again because I am not strong the spacer can be a b**ch to get off after a winter. The above is essentially the setup I have been using since 1994 with my first BMW.
