Loving my 135 :)
Two weeks ago I finally grew a pair and bought my first BMW. I was looking for a 335i for a while, but I found a 2010 Alpine White 135i with 19k miles for $29k. The only option it has is the M Sport Package and the MT. However, it was love at first sight. Now I understand the BMW "Joy" campaign. I find myself leaving the gym early just to drive around town!
So my first two cars both had automatic transmissions and I vowed my next car would be a manual. I have driven stick before on friends' cars but it's def not the same as owning one. I have only driven the car for two weeks, but it seems that going from 1st to 2nd seems a lil....knotchy? It doesn't slide into 2nd as easily as going from 3rd to 4th. Seems to have a knotch that I need to use little force to get past to put it in gear. Is this normal? Or should I have BMW look at it? Might be an amateur question but I was curious. Now the fun begins...what mod should I start with.... |

If the shifter is getting caught up going from 1st to 2nd, you're probably trying to make the shift before the clutch is completely disengaged. Other than that, the CDV may be the issue. Though, an experienced manual driver wouldn't use the CDV as an excuse

I am def not an experienced manual driver, but after doing some reading, I think the CDV is the issue. Might have to learn to live with it as I don't want to mess w/ the warrantly. And yes...GO GATORS!

No specific sequence, just suggestions for the OP. I would recommend Cobb for anyone though, then in order to take advantage of Stage 2, FMIC and down pipes are required. Although, i forgot to mention downpipes in my earlier response.

Welcome and congrats! The shifting condition you're describing from 1-2 is normal, and has nothing to do with the CDV since the clutch is fully disengaged while you're shifting. You'll get used to it.
Go Gators! By the way, I'm getting rid of my blue 135i as I await my orange 1M which should be on its way...talk about Gator colors representation. Can't wait to return to the swamp in my orange beast! |

Congrats on the car, and good for you getting the manual. I have driven a manual for almost 20 years, and I didn't experience the trouble with it other people have complained about with the shifting. In fact, my car has the best clutch and shifter of the manuals I've owned. The only problem I have is getting used to the location of reverse because my other manual car is Japanese and reverse is down and to the right.
