1M Midpipes
Anyone have thoughts on why a Berk or MadDad mid pipe would be better than a N55 mid pipe which appears to be a less expensive alternative. All eliminate the secondary cats and the pics I've seen of the N55 resonator looks pretty unrestricted.

Seems that most of the restriction is on the cats -- so any of the three options (N55, MadDad, Berk) will likely get the lion's share of flow.
That being said, there may be some advantage to Berk's (and maybe MadDad's though I haven't analyzed theirs too closely) pipes having two straight resonators instead of the N55's one. How much more restriction that gets rid of is anyone's guess. Seems like it would be minimal...

I've been considering this too. I like the idea of the N55 pipes from the stanpoint they look BMW factory installed and less of an 'OH WOW' if I ever need to take the car in for service. Also how do you plan to circumvent the O2 error codes?

Ya'll were saying mid pipes but the brain was thinking down pipes. So the N55 midpipes are catless and there are no O2 sensors that need to be connected to secondary cats in our cars. What's the cost of a set of N55 pipes? I wonder what would be more effective in reducing backpressure, a set of 3" catless down pipes or N55 (or sim) midpipes? Wouldn't be able to do both and still pass emissions. Not having to jigger with fooling the car into thinking the downpipe cats are there is def. an advantage to the midpipe route. Oh, and I think I have all this right now. If I'm off base someome edjumicate me please! |

How hard would it be to do a secondary cat delete for a good muffler shop?
