P3 Boost Gauge Installed

Installed the P3 Electronic Boost Gauge today - very nice addition to the interior.

All required info can be found online (installation and calibration etc.) - but not necesarily on P3 web site.

What a GREAT gauge !! Having had the Defi amber Boost gauge in my last ride(as well in the vent) this P3 gauge fits and looks to be OEM...it's that good. It still blows me away so many dudes or dudetts do not have a boost gauge in there BMW turbo cars...I love my 1 but seems rather bizarre to me that BMW feels having so many bells and whistles in these cars and neglected to " INCLUDE " a boost gauge stock....The P3 is so perfect in fit and finish ...a MUST MUST mod !

Here's the link:

http://www.p3cars.com/bmw-v2-order/

The gauge does much more than display vacuum and boost

It can display several other functions and read error codes

it's essentially plug and play plus it's already mounted in a new vent.

How difficult was the installation? How long did it take you?

Not difficult - there is a detailed write up here:

http://www.rixeffects.com/files/135ivg_install.pdf

I had pre installed the hose into the engine bay that taps off the diverter valves. After that it took less than an hour to replace the vent remove the necessary panels install the new vent and make the connections.

The only wire you need to tap is to dim the display and this just connects to the trunk release switch all the other signals come from the OBD connector

Obviously only boost is available with the turbo engine.

I would assume all the following functions can be read by the gauge since they come from the OBD connector also it reads any error codes that are thrown. It's like an integrated "Scangauge"

Coolant

This mode will show your current coolant temp. Unlike the needle on your dash, this will show you exactly the temp that your engine is currently running at, and is configurable between Celsius & Fahrenheit.

Air

Air intake temperature. This is the reading of the temperature of the air entering the engine, and is configurable between Celsius && Fahrenheit.

Igntn

Actual ignition timing. This mode will show you the ignition timing of your engine in real-time.

Egt

Exhaust Gas Temperature. This is the temp of the exhaust gas as calculated by your ECU.

Throttle

Actual throttle plate position. Use this mode to see how your car changes the actual drive by wire throttle blade in relation to what your foot tells it to do.

rp-Shift

RPM readout. It can be handy to use this mode to see an exact RPM or to record/playback and see your shifts.

Speed

Actual roadspeed direct from VSS. This is the actual roadspeed value of the car, uncorrected. This is the raw value, therefore it may not match your cluster which tends to read high in many cars.

0-60

Zero to sixty Performance Timer. Come to a stop and this mode will read "Rdy…" The gauge is ready for you to accelerate to 60. As you accelerate the gauge will time you and automatically stop when you hit 60, leaving your time on the screen. When you slow to zero again the gauge will change to "Rdy…"

Batt

Battery Voltage. This is the voltage of your cars power system, anything betwen 13-14 volts while running is normal.
