Franklin: I think I have the older version of the chargepipe without that ER silicone sleeve. IIRC mine was tightened about that much....

My STOCK pipe has blown off about 9 times now, and gone through 2 throttle body O-rings.
So, I'm getting this ASAP: The intercooler side shouldn't pop off, just get that T-clamp nice and tight! |

Wow sorry to hear that...I am sure there are threads about all this but how can one tell if the charge pipe has blown off?

It's immediately apparant. Loss of power, lazy spool time, change in exhaust note, and you can see it disconnected if you look closely in the engine bay.

Believe it or not, out of all the time it blew off, the car never showed the light or threw a code. That was what was tripping me out. My car had basically been leaking boost the whole time I had it, and explains why the turbos whined much more than my tuned 135i.

Have you gone WOT on a rough road? I wouldnt trust it, especially if the o-ring flew out like mine did. You may even have a boost leak.

I just spent the weekend on track with my car... I think I ran about 10 sessions at Texas World Speedway... I have put in 5 sessions at Barber Motorsports Park, and also have about 25 autocross runs.. I am still under 3K miles.. but no issues thus far... and I am not going to change mine unless I have an issue.

"The only advantage with the 09+ version is you get a solid elbow (gets rid of the crappy rubber elbow), but that is more important for meth bung placement." So what I did is I changed my order to the 09+ since I don't want the rubber elbow to pop as I had the RR DVs before and for the first few times it did.. I am assuming the solid elbow in pictures I've seen is made of solid metal and won't even budge.. its $50.00 more but I think its worth it for future meth and the popping issue rubber elbows might have. Someone who has this can confirm if this is the case.

Is anyone still having issues with their charge pipes comming off? I only have 700 miles without going over 5500 rpms (still breaking it in) so im not sure if i should go with the aftermarket charge pipe or stick with the OEM pipe.
Maybe BMW fixed this issue with the later builds???

I was just thinking this as well... because I was thinking that it has been quite a while with no new reports of issues and lots of cars have been delivered.... I have taken my car on track for four days and had no issues, as well as several autocrosses. Personally.. I would save your money and stick with the OEM.. or... maybe buy aftermarket and keep it around in case the stock one fails during a track weekend or something... but like you... I wonder if a running change ocurred...

So I finally got around to installing my ETS CP this weekend and noticed halfway thru the install that something was amiss. Most charge pipes on the market seems to consist of a simple elbow with an opening at each end for airflow. While this is fine for the 335i/135i it seems our 1M's are a bit different and have an additional pipe coming in from the driver's side which won't work with most, if not all, CP's on the market. Has anyone installed one of these successfully yet?

Hmm...this is the first time I've installed one of these so what would I do next? Do I completely remove the smaller elbow and then cap off the opening to the device some how or just simply remove that whole piece?
