Engine oil temperature

Hello!!

When do you consider the engine to be warm enough to stat pulling hard after a cold start??
I always wait until the oil tmp is close to 120C (almost vertical) to go beyond 2000-2300 rpm... Is that "too conservative" or is the right spot... I have seen that in normal driving the oil stays between 95 (the dot) and 120 but closer to 120, (I assume 110+-) so I consider that optimum tmp but some say it is too conservative and there is no need to wait that much (some times it takes up to 15-20 KM) and then I gradually rev up the engine...

160+ degrees Fahrenheit is good enough to go WOT. Basically once the needle moves off the beginning of the gauge.

Really?? cuz I feel the gearbox a little more rough at the beginning and then it starts to smoothen but way after the needle starts to move... maybe its my and my paranoia...

Well, yeah the trans and diff are a bit clunkier for a while, but as far as your engine is concerned you'll be ok.

Personally, i feel the diff "clunk" back after letting off when it is still cold, but no gearbox issues, and I slam gears pretty hard!

I must say the 1M engine rather warms up slowly compared to my previous E92 M3.

I spoke about it with Advevo, he does have the same experience...

Can`t explain why, but it does warm up slowly.......

Think so.........

I had the pleasure to drive along with Advevo behind the wheel on friday 23th of december........

He drove it hard, I mean realy hard, and a lot of drifting

Temperature never exceeded 120 degrees Celcius........

Romo it s also good to mention i use the Castrol Edge 0W-40. Engine oil temp stays a little bit lower on extreme use.

On Track i get the temp a little over 120 degrees.

In MN it takes me about 8-10 miles for the temp gauage to budge which is almost my entire commute.

Yes, warm up takes a while, but is critical for those turbo bearings. (and main!)

I can actually hear mine whine more and it fades by the time it is warm. (cowling off)
