hmmm I have given some thought into it. comparing the 135/8/1M

it is very hard to explain: they are different cars. Now that I put road tyres on the 8 and driven both back to back. I still remember the 135 was like pushing hard.

the 8 is modded so it has a flatter and firmer ride. I have to put the 8's suspension to full soft to get the comfort of the 1M .

steering of the M is heavier than 135 and way more than the 8 but I feel the 8 is more connected and responsive car. Stock RX8 is very easy to start turning but the M I need to think a bit more what I do.

I yet to put full weight on the car while braking (ie have not race the car yet). but I found something interesting about the 1M. In full on braking, the RX8 rear feel floated, very floated and if you start turning under braking you will fade brake the car and the rear will come out. Or if you are still overspeed then you will get massive under steer and go wide in a corner. In that department, the 1M is more stable and more predictable - I yet to put it on the track like Winton so I have to reserve this a bit. Early signs is the 1M is good for time attack out of the box. No need to get rhythm on the track and just go and set a PB!

135 is way inferior because there is no mechanical LSD. This does not limit what the car does in braking but it just can't get out of the corner the way I like it to be. The grip is way way way better in the 1M and I am glad that I did that rather than modding the 135

I agree with Andrew in SouthernBm that no matter what you do in the 135 it is not 1M. the gap in grip is too far between the 2 cars are too huge. I still remeber the way a particular modded 135 since i have driven WAY's 135 on the track during Dutton rally. Sorry WAY your car was a bit RUBBISH! haha.

The 1M is way better in way in holding the line while acceleration and mid corner speed is insane even compare with 135 on semis. You wouldn't have crashed if we had the 1M.

I lost all sense of lap time now people. I have not been on the race track. The 8 stock is a 1'43 car and I think 1M would be a 1'35-36??? I think it does a 1'51 in Philip iSland which is an insane time for a road car

Love it! Thanks Taka! I've always had a fascination with the RX8's and nearly came close to buying an 09 spec GT... but I held out due to the lack of torque and not wanting to turbo it. It's perfect in every other aspect I think.

I'm really interested to see a hands on comparison of a modded 135i and 1M... I know there are already reviews out there, but it's hard to get a feeling for the car without actually driving it! Bah! Time to whip out the financial calculator and predict when I can afford one.

Taka, I too feel the 1M is very much better than the 135i. Feels similar in many ways yet also different. I like it on the track and on the mountain roads.

Do duttons in your 1M Taka! My 135i can do 1:51 at Phillip Island (in my hands anyway lol). interested to know what the 1M can do there stock without semis.

Taka - long time no see mate.

I spoke to the guys at ATC before Christmas, they haven't organised anything as yet although they did say they are thinking of just doing one big event over a couple of days rather than spread out over the year.

Note that the modification is reversible using stock StSt tubing. The sleeves are spot welded. Tips are flared slightly to accept the 135i tips.

The work was done by a motorcycle exhaust fabricator while the muffler was off the car.

They look good Gazz.

Are the 135i tips larger in diameter, as the clearance seems reduced between to the parrallel tips.

Also are the 135i tips longer than the 1M tips?

From getbmwparts.com which is Tischer.

The tips aren't longer but are certainly larger diameter, hence the sleeving to fit them.

The 135i tips are tapered vs the straight 1M tips so they tend to appear a little shorter on the car; which is a good thing.

How many 1M will be in Oz total. I think I saw a thread that N America capped the total to 740 units
