BMS Downpipe Fix for 1M

Has anyone here with a 1M used the BMS Downpipe Fix to eliminate the CEL instead of a flash tune? Considering this option instead of immediately voiding my warranty with a flash. Opinions?

I know a lot of the 135 have. Post to the 1 series n54 section for a lot more hits. Here's a link:

My biggest concern with that is where does it connect? Is it in/on the ECU? If so I'd hate for BMW service to find it. I'm afraid hey would immediately jump to the same conclusion as if you actually had a tune on the car.

robertm,
Yes it is wired into the ecu area - however, I do not believe it will trigger the "anti-tuner" coding changes that BMW monitors and uses to red flag vehicles and subsequently voids the warranty on cars that have been flash tuned. - This may be a viable alternative to a flash tune in order to eliminate the CEL on cars that are running catless DP's yet still keeping the warranty intact?

Honestly I don't know. I mean if the dealership finds that thing hanging in the ECU I think they will have kittens. It will immediately be flagged as 'moddified ecu'. It will then be up to you to explain why that shouldn't void the entire engine management (and whatever else) warranty. Same basic deal as if they really do have some cryptic 'anti tuner' coding thing.

Here's an idea. How hard is that piece to in/uninstall? I think its pretty simple. You could install it then uninstall before visits to the dealership. I believe the car runs for XX miles before it starts to throw codes for the lack of cats. So, stop somewhere just before arriving to dealer, pull that piece out, drop off and they will never be the wiser. Remember though if they do an oil change they will drie the car 8-10 miles to make sure the fill sensor is reading max.

I agree - I would remove the BMS DP Fix in the event of some kind of catastrophic failure before going to the dealer. I do all my own work and maint so I wont be going back to the dealer anytime soon. I believe the key in the warranty arena is if you have ever reflashed the ECU and upped the boost/timing beyond the BMW factory limits. That would definitely be a red flag. If/when I decide to run a tune, I will plan on having to cover any catastrophic failures myself.

apart from the CEL coming on, is there any other consequences to running catless DP's with the stock tune?
