Based on my experience with my 135i/N54 Stage 2 software, I would look elsewhere. At full throttle, my engine oscillates/surges violently making the car frustrating to drive. Dinan is aware of the problem, but have no plans to fix it per my dealer. I would guess the 1M version of the software has the same problem. If you do a google search, you will find multiple forum discussions regarding this issue.

I have had the Dinan Stage 2 since the day it was made available. My 1M is my everyday driver and I have tracked it 4 times since its installation. It is fantastic. I had the same tune in my 335I. I recently installed the Maddad mid pipe and the car has even more hp and torque and the response is amazing. I have had zero issues with the tune. I don't see how you can beat Steve Dinan's experience with tuning and the fact that Dinan matches the 4 year warranty. I actually needed to use the Dinan warranty support on my 335i when the fuel pump was the issue and the dealer said it was the tune. Dinan set me up with a dealership (Crevier Bmw) and they took care of replacing the fuel pump and reinstalling the Dinan II software which they are also a distributor of.

Real upgrade?
I'm not 100% sure on that one but the dinan stage 2 without intercooler upgrade give you 378hp and 415ft-lbs at the crank. Stock 1M have been dynoed to 331rwhp and 362rwtq so basicly the same as the stage 2 at the crank. I don't think it worth 1995$

The numbers on the 1M stock has over boost temporarily. The 1M stock is equivalent to a Dinan stage 1 tune. The stage 2 changes fuel pump, oil cooler, boost, water pump ect and then lowers the boost at high revs to perserve the engine. There is no over boost because their is no time limit on the duration of increased power. I had the stock, and I drive the Stage 2 and I can tell you from my experience and 4 track days so far with 5 hours on the track each time there is a major difference between stock and Dinan 2.

I have the stage 2 on my 335i and it has some delay if you are not brake boosting. Now, my 335i is much straight line faster than my 1M.
I have no plans to change the boost on the 1M. I can't get all the power to the ground with 295 Hoosiers, so adding more power is just not this car's issue.

There is nothing wrong with Dinan. I have gotten great service out of them but my 335 had the software already loaded on it when I bought it. I don't know that I would have paid the money for it.
They do stand behind their product. I have seen them pay for whole engines at my local dealership, if needed. I still don't think these cars need more power. They can;t put what they have down to the ground with r-comps on corner exit without a slow roll of the throttle. I would spend the money on some coilovers and camber adjustment before added move power. Even from a roll the fat ole Cameros are going to pull you after you up the boost. They will not out brake you or out turn you....

Much better bang for your buck with Cobb, Vishnu Tuning Procede, or Burger Tuning JB4. Were I to go to an aftermarket tune, I'd probably go with Cobb, but all three are good.

+1, much better options for aftermarket tunes than Dinan IMO. Recently had work done at a former Dinan rep/shop that dropped Dinan products altogether as they could never substantiate the claimed results, and their clients were left very unhappy.
Steve knows well how to milk the 'warranty' trump card, but read some more on the E90 (and other) boards and you will see how that veil is easily pierced. Many a Dinan customers have been left stranded on the warranty claim...

For some of us stuck with the Dinan flash for now (pending warranty expiration), any idea if the tune will work with a meth kit since my new ER charge pipe comes with the bung?

That said it is essentially upping the octane so I would assume it would give you some sort of gain. I would recommend against it though. Ask over in the N54/5 engine forum, they will be better able to answer your question. |

If you want to play it safe and have the cash, id get the dinan. However for great gains and a solid tune id get the GIAC.
