Clutch Delay Valve Delete - My Experience
First, I have to say that I've had no complaints with the clutch or trans in my 128 except perhaps the occasional extra effort required to engage 2nd & sometimes 3rd. This is coming from many years of driving only standards with engine sizes from 1.6 - 5.7 litres.
Last week I took the 128 in to my dealer for install of the BMW Performance Suspension (see separate post) and I asked the service manager if he knew anything about clutch delay valves, if he could remove it, would it effect the warranty, and what would be the effect. His answers were; Yes, Yes, No, more sensitivity in the engagement. Of course I told him to do it. After two days of driving w/o CDV the results are ......... 0 Clutch engagement went from being OK to being RIGHT 0 Entrance into all gears is smoother 0 Pulling off those fast short low RPM shifts is now a breeze 0 Friction point is more predictable I'm a convert. Whether or not one thinks that they need this mod the lessened wear on the gearbox synchros from the decreased force required to enter gears sometimes, alone I would think is justification. Jack

My 135i is my 3rd BMW where I replaced the CDV. On the 135i I had the CDV in my hands a month before I got the car.
I have noticed some dealers are ok with some mods and others are not ok with the same mod so be careful. If I was not mechanically inclined I would have an independent mechanic install it not the BMW dealer just to be safe plus I am sure an independent mechanic would charge you less for the install. I wonder what BMW’s take is on the CDV for warranty. I notice you are from BC, it may be different in the USA.

As my dealer forgot to do it when I was in for the supsension install, for the inconvenience of bringing the car back he didnt charge me. Pretty nice! My dealer has been beyond expectation in every category since I ordered the car back in 2009. (Guess ya gotta get lucky once in a while!)

Light_Em_Up nail it. This mod is such a MUST HAVE. I did mine at three months of ownership... and that was three months too long to put up with the factory CDV & crappy clutch response.

Sorry Otaku, no time given, only description: "Re/Re undertray, Remove clutch delay valve, Bleed system, Removed part in plastic bag in RR trunk". I'd think that it would have taken ~30 min from drive in to drive out.

Hmmm interesting, I agree this task should take less than an hour.
Thanks for the response, I am always keen to guage international timings for simple tasks, BMW over here has a small tendency to hurt our wallets! |

If you can undo the 6 screws for the underbody panel and two spring clips on the clutch piping, you can do it yourself.
