Thoughts of a race day exhaust, 3" bullet off the mid pipe dumped pre-axle
So after my HPDE I was thinking about how much I would love to get an exhaust on my 1'er even at least for just track days. The glorious $2500+ systems out there which I would love to purchase frankly aren't in my budget at the moment. I was considering getting an N55 midpipe and having it setup with the two pipes collecting into a 3" bullet and dumping under the car or out the side. Would provide some better flow (and noise ) for race days and I could easily swap back in the stock mid for regular driving.
Take into consideration this was a 1:30AM middle of working overtime before a couple of days off thought so im just throwing it out there So... What do you think? |

My thoughts...
1) I've been in your shoes having similar thoughts while working late into the night/morning 2) That exhaust would be loud as shit but probably not get you much in terms of additional HP 3) You'll come to your senses once you have a chance to rest 4) I would still love to see you do this... just to hear the noise |

![]() I already have a source for a good deal on a used 3" dynomax bullet, the bigger issue is getting an n55 mid and chopping the stock apart or an n54 mid and chopping that, all for the right price.... |

The N55 mid is a relatively cheap mod especially if you do the install. Member FranklinJoseph had a dump pipe fabricated and it sounded quite good. In regards to it being too loud, I don't think it was any louder than the Akra and Meister.

dont have a thread anywhere....but "minicorsa" bought my exhaust setup.
It was a berk prototype exhaust...they cut the exhaust right before the rear muffler section (there is about 12" of straight pipes) and welded a 3" vband. I then got a local shop to weld a 3" turn down pipe (with vband). So whenever i wanted to run a dump pipe, i'd just undo the rear muffler portion and bolt in the turn down pipe. |

What about an electric exhaust cut out?
So it run through the whole system on the street but hit a switch and it comes straight out the dump pipe. I've seen it done on Supras etc. Anyone done it on a BMW? |

Catless DP's, with catless mids, running a 3" straight pipe with no muffler.. Sounded awesome for the track, but dont know if you could live with it as a DD.. |

I'd be interested in something like this. Mid-pipes are cheap enough that you can comfortably hack one up without much concern.
