The mid pipe hold the secondary cats. But yea, some shops are afraid of getting fined by the EPA for tampering with emission devices. Find another shop or do it yourself.

Remove some of the restriction by removing the 2 secondary cats, which is a good thing for improved throttle and some performance, main gains will be main cats on the downpipes but then you will need to be mapping to change the sensor perimeters or you face the eml flashing up, otherwise with some miles now I have found it has deepened the exhaust note especially the burbles which from the outside is very noticeable.....simple and easy, looks oem and cheap to do.....

Autoscope will certainly do it. I am in Dallas too and am thinking of installing the pipe myself. From what I have read it is a fairly straight forward installation and at a shop like autoscope the install will run you $300+. They do great work, but for a simple bolt on I would try to do it yourself.

I have used Autoscope for a few things in the past and they do a great job and have a very clean facility, nothing bad to say about them. That said when I got a quote from them for $800+ installed I chuckled inside. I don't know what price they were using on the pipe but it can be had new for $360 (shipped from tischer), install it yourself and it will be one of the cheapest BMW mods ever.

Remove 4 nuts at the DPs
Remove 1 bolt a foot or so below that on a hanger Remove 2 bolts at the point where the axleback meets the midpipe. You do have to remove a brace to get the pipe out. The brace has 4 bolts in the center and 2 on the ends (1 on each end). Reverse steps to install... remove the brace before loosening the midpipe and obviously install the brace after the N55 pipe is bolted in place. Make sure you pull the gaskets (3 total) off both ends of the original midpipe unless you are going to be using all new ones. No one should charge more than about $100 for this. |
