Gas pedal/carpet protection?
Hi Everyone, new here and have a question. I've searched, made phone calls and have had no answers. The carpet on the right side of the accelerator pedal is constantly getting rubbed by my foot, and I can see how it would quickly become worn. Other cars I've had have a protector there, or there was one available. This is the first brand new car I have owned and I would like to not wear a big ass hole in it (contrary to my first post) right away.
Any thoughts? I also think pedal feel would be improved at the carpet is grabby as well. Thanks in advance. |

Not an elegant solution, I've seen people use a few strips of electrical tape stuck to the carpet.
Edit: I should clarify - I'm not taking about the kind that leaves sticky black stuff everywhere. I found this on my e46, presumably the previous owner had put it there to protect the tan carpet from shoe polish. Peeled it off without a trace. Last edited by wolfe; 06-08-2012 at 09:21 AM.. |

Seems to me that won't stick for long, and if you remove it, you'll have a wad of sticky residue. I'd rather have a hole there.

I am not wearing the area on the tunnel carpet adjacent to the gas pedal. I like to heel and toe for downships so my normal position on the gas pedal is shifted over towards the clutch. Blipping the throttle on downshifts isn't really necessary but if you downshift to 5,000 rpm on a track, it is pretty hard on synchronizers if you don't help out with a little throttle.
If you don't want to learn this or otherwise change your foot position, you could try and put a piece of plastic or something adjacent to the gas pedal, maybe with velcro on the back to help hold it on the carpet. You need to be careful that it cannot come off and lock your throttle open. It might also be possible to fasten the extra piece to the floor mat (which is held in position by velcro).
