Have it.
It makes the control of the clutch feel more connected with pedal movement so you eliminate that sloppy feeling of the clutch engagement as your nearing what should be full engagement. You don't get that momentary feeling like the clutch isn't grabbing when your foot has already left the clutch pedal. Completely worth it. Took me about 10-15 minutes on ramps including bleeding with a couple basic tools.

Great info in this thread . . . You can modify your own CDV.

CDV
Guys,
Be careful here as CDV upgrade on non M cars is definitely worth doing. However, on M3 at least the CDV is full bore. Assuming 1M is the same then CDV swap out would yield little or no benefit. I upgrade to an M3 CDV on my e91 335i and difference in clutch feel was night and day. However, clutch pedal stop mod is worth doing to reduce the clutch travel. I fitted the BMS one and it's good as its got packers so as you can adjust to best suit yourself and make sure there's no dragging of the clutch. Just my 2 cents worth. Cheers, Dave |

There are lots of testimonials regarding benefit on 1M. I have driven manuals for 22 years and never had one make me feel like a retard until now. (first BMW)
In the DIY thread above, there is a nice photo through the heart of the CDV, and there is definitely a restriction, possibly 1mm or so. |

I have seen some post on the M3 forum where the early e9x M3 did not have a CDV restriction inside the adapter/valve. While later cars DID! I know M cars in the e/36, e46 and e39 M5's had a cdv. So... I think we need to see some testimonials first. But I suspect bmw puts these crappy CDV's on all their cars - including M cars. And including the 1M. This is such a worthwhile must have mod that its worth having a look! You can not tell until you get it all apart though. Even so... its worth the effort.

Surely a "full bore" clutch delay valve is an oxymoron? No restrection = no delay. Assuming the 1M doesn't have a CDV is somewhat at odds with the photographic and in-person evidence of many here ;-)|

My suggestion fella is view the parts side by side, as I did when I did the swap out.
Further, I have driven a friends 135i with the CDV deleted. Clutch felt the same as mine with M3 CDV installed. If in doubt just delete the CDV. I kept CDV as my car is still under warranty. |

FYI I have tapped out more than one 1M CDV so it isnt a lone data point in my experience. |

OP, if you don't want to do this yourself (even though it is 1 on the 10 scale of difficulty), you can "trade-in' yours here for a 'free' one: http://www.zeckhausen.com/cdv.htm

Just did this today, what a difference!! I coupled the lines together and intended to leave the who CDV out. Ocne I had it out, the valve tapped out of the housing easily, so I put the gutted valve back in the keep the unmodified look.
FYI, the 1M clutch bleeder is an 11mm. The DIY called for a 10mm wrench. Those who have incomplete sets of tools (like me) will want to know that before starting. Fortunately I had an 11mm. There is definitely NOT enough room in there to use a monkey wrench. |
