That's terrible. Most tuners offer a valet map which would have been ideal for situations where your car is left in the care of others.

I'm glad your friend wasn't seriously hurt, I'm sure his ego and conscious has a few scars from the accident.
All the best with dealing with your insurance company, I have nothing than negative experiences with mine, it starts with handing them over money and gets worse if you ever have to use it. Good luck! |

I was still hoping your friend has punked you on that but I guess you saw your car already. Well head up you'll find the best solution. Sometimes it just sucks. But it will be fine.

What about exploiting the "Limp Mode" feature alternatively: the 1M only drives in "limp mode" if you have valet key or did not push some sort of hidden button. No fun for the valet, c.q. joyrider.

No not me. Having owned other high HP cars I know to be very careful about keeping my keys hidden (not saying its the OPs fault at all). People who own accords/camrys and the like always think they can hop in, hold on, slam the pedal to the floor, and expect the car to stay straight and in the lane.
Hopefully these situations can get resolved quickly and correctly by the insurance company so these poor guys can get a replacement car. |

And also: car insurance basically insurers damage to third parties (hit objects or persons). If there's no full casco insurance (all risk, thus including proper damage), damage to the 1M itself is in principle not insured.

I have full insurance coverage. Waiting for it all to get sorted out. Sorry, but I'm not going to share specific details of the incident in a public forum until it's fully resolved. I'll post pics in the next few days. Roof is badly crushed, but held up around driver and passenger's head.
I will NEVER have an aftermarket CF roof installed after seeing this. I believe the original roof likely saved the lives of the passengers. |

Sorry to hear about your car......
I have alot of experience dealing with insurance companies when it comes to situations like this.......some insurance companies are really good and some are really bad......just realize that you have to fight them every step of the way........never take the first or even second offer they make you for your car.....hold out for top dollar.....also do not release your vehicle to there possesion until you settle with them......whatever facility has your vehicle will be charging the insurance storage....use this to your advantage because they will want to settle fast to keep their costs down....the more you drag it out the more it will cost them so it will be in their best interest to give you a fair offer sooner rather than later.... If you need any help or advice let me know..... |
