I hear you tuned1M, it took me about two hours after PCD on the drive home to get my first rock chip. So after 8 months now I have 3 chips and one under front bumper curb scrape. sorry about your bumper .

I curbed a wheel the first day. It has taken ten months to curb the other three.

It's more of an indentation from another car's license plate holder. I can tell they used a Philips screwdriver to bolt on their plate.

As far as chips, I have a few of those too. Time to order Dr. Colorchip...

Ouch, sorry to hear man, but think how it could've been much worse if he/she really whacked your car.

FWIW, anytime I parallel park on anything other than an end spot, I always pull out my Bumper Bully. Not the prettiest of things, but it sure does help. Look into it perhaps.

How the hell do you curb wheels (I should stop here, but I'll keep going) on the left side of the car!?!? I've had my 1er for 3 years and have immaculate wheels on all four corners. I just don't understand how people could have trouble judging the dimensions of this car!

Wheel I mean well some have to park on a curbed street every day. I would guess its a fine line between leaving those beautiful fat flared fenders out there to get hit or getting as close as possible to that terrible curb monster!!

But the mirrors tilt down and give you a clear view of your distance from the curb. It's pretty easy to park and not hit the curb... I've been doing it for 15+ years.

Of course the car is well sized and well shaped plus has the tilting passenger mirror option available etc. but do you have a 1M or another 1 series? I park without a problem since 21 years but 1M is sometimes surprisingly difficult to judge at the corners. I seriously blame the fat fenders. By the way, I did not curb a wheel in 1M yet but I feel it is very possible, especially if you are in a hurry and on a poorly designed street/curb.

Come on, cut me a little slack, your highness. Here's how they all went down:

First one - right rear into curb while turning right and misjudging distance from curb.

Second one - right front into curb while making sweeping u-turn and misjudging distance from curb.

Third one - left front while pulling out of pay parking lot and hitting curb next to ticket booth.

Fourth one - same as third one, except this time left rear.

A little deft touch with the dremel grindstone attachment, a light sanding and a little silver paint is all it takes to make the rash barely noticeable.

I would blame my misfortune on my advancing age (64), but my E36 M3 has a stellar set of wheels that have never kissed a curb. Something about the 1M just makes me a little goofy, I guess.

I do have the tilting mirror feature and it is great. I have never curbed a wheel whilst parallel parking.

Under any circumstance, life is too short to get all that anal about the nicks and dings of outrageous fortune, although when that first one happened it was less than 24 hours after having written the check for the car and I did say a bad word or two, at volume.

Slats, don't feel bad. I ran into a curb slightly with the front, took the little corner off the front spoiler. I now park feet away from the curb. Luckily the car is so small it's easy to park far away from the curb.

Sorry to hear about that mishap, but 'badges of honor' seem inevitable if the 1M is used in the urban jungle. The danger of dings and scratches is lurking everywhere in the city.

During one of the very first weeks I misjudged the ground clearance of the exhaust tips while reverse parking the 1M close to a nastily high pavement (side walk). Park Distance Control to no avail for that one. However, as you can see in the pictures below (which I snapped in disbelief once I got out of the car), I got away with a lucky near miss: did not hit or scratch any part, but was way too close for comfort (see also: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=609647).

Mind you, you definitely ain't the only one. The underside of my front lip ain't immaculate anymore too. Though only visible when looking under the car. Unpleasant freak noise/sound when the lip gets "romantically involved" with a curb or some scarred high speed bump.
