First impression aFe CAI. No pics though

Got my aFe Stage 2 Pro 5 R CAI two days ago after some hustle with the local post-office.
However, first impression is "why did I wait so long on deciding?"

The throttle response is somewhat more rapid. The turbo noise is a bit more present and I've also noticed some increase in mileage. Also, up until now, the Eisenmann Race system combined with my flash has had a wobbly noise at high load acceleration, this noise is now gone and instad there's a smooth linear noise. Haven't really tested the performance yet on max, but supposedly I now have a maximum of +14hp.

Easy DIY install aswell.

I like my aFe as well, biggest advantage for me is the increased induction noise. In stock form under acceleration the car has a bit of turbo music but I always hoped for a little more, aFe definitely helps out there. Avg. 19mpg

Dry or oiled filter and why one over the other?

I keep hearing that the AFE offered turbo lag at certain RPMs.
Actually looking at the BMS dual cone intake to compare. It's been getting great reviews. No heat soak and no power loss despite not having a heat guard".

AFE, single or dual cone has proven to have no restriction on many back to back dyno runs.

I 've had the sealed single cone AFE CAI for a couple months now and I love it.
But I do have one concern, I opened my hood today and noticed that two of the four allen bolts that hold the lid of the cone in place were missing, and the lid was partially open. i can't figure out how they were able to unscrew and fall off?!
Has anyone experienced anything like this?,

Did you make sure they were tight when you installed your intake? Some blue loctite may do the trick and you won't lose them again.

can somebody explain the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 (other than the obvious visual differences).

Yeah I did tighten them up quite well before the install! I did not use loctite, which I will when I get the replacement bolts!
Do you think keeping the lid open for a couple of days is okay?
I took it off so I didn't loose the other two bolts and the lid!

No issues at all, it will be just like ther dual cone intake, you may loose a few hp and tq at low vehicle speeds because the intake is taking in hot engine air.

Any real dyno comparisons, or is it all via butt dyno. If you guys like the turbo spooling noise, try hard piping. It make it sound orgasmic at the very least

A bit off topic, but have you tried driving without the top panel installed? Seems like it would flow almost as well as their DCI in that configuration. Would bring a lot louder turbo spool soundtrack to your interior as well.

Actually, that's what I'm doing at the moment.

The crappy screws holding the top fell off right away from vibrations , and the screws are the only ones on the car by american standard measurements, which also means they haven't been replaced yet. Must find this soon...

It makes a satisfying noise now, though, I must say. Schhhhhhhwooooshhh

Do you mean from the stock airbox or from the AFE?

I paired my AFE stage 2 with an ER charge pipe and felt significant improvement in throttle response. I would highly recommend one.

I'd personally go with the dry filter elements. From some reading I've been doing on diesel truck forums, the oiled ones don't trap nearly as much dirt and have caused some turbo failures. Better safe than sorry IMO. I'll be swapping out my Berger Motorsport DCI's for an aFe unit soon.

The question now is sealed vs open. Also, where do the scoops fit?

The scoops fit behind the kidney grills, it's a very simple 5 minute install

I too am interested in the AFE if it improves the throttle response as people are saying. I do have a question for those in the know...how does the AFE affect warranty issues? will adding the AFE void my warranty?

Considering how strict the dealers here in South America are with only a 2 year warranty (as opposed to 4 years in US), I would re-install the factory intake before going to the dealer for any service or warranty issue. It's a 30 minute install anyways, better safe than sorry.
