Mine got really bad, as you can see. Tried soap (CG citrus, see 4th & 5th pic trim below rear window) and that helped a little but did not fix it. Followed up with some CG EZ creme glaze (see 4th pic kink trim), that worked great. Out of curiosoity I also tried some sealant, CG M-seal (5th pic trim below front window). It seemed to work just as good as the glaze which surprised me. Last pic is final result. Now if only I could get my drain plugs to stop taking a deuce on my side skirts...

Mine is almost as bad as yours was.
Thanks fopr the tips. I just finished getting my car back to perfect and I wanted to detail the car and fix the shadowlinw trim,. I'm glad there's something that actually works, as I tried a few different things to no avail. Quote:

I appreciate teh posts everyone.
Well "never dull" did not work....I'm now waiting on Meguiars #9 to come in to see if this works.. By now I've tried basically everything under the sun and kind of depressed about the whole thing. Detail shops couldn't get it off either. I have at the end of January to meet with a BMW specialist at the dealership to see if he will grant me free trim replacement since the car is 6 months old from coming off the boat - It turns out the trim can only be replaced by taking out the back windows (apparently the trim is glued to window (WTF)! Just blows because my back windows are tinted! SOB! And who's to say this wont happen again when it gets replaced??? BMW needs to remedy this ASAP. Any updates are welcomed and thanks in advance. I'll post BMW's decision on this. |

looks worse than "rainbowing"
The issue I have looks worse than rainbowing, which may be why nothing is working on the trim.
Has anyone had it this bad??? Is it possible to remedy without replacement (IMO I don;t think so) See pics below: |

replaced free
Meguiars #9 to no prevail...
I took it to the dealership for a rep to look at last week and he 'blessed' a free replacement and repair of all the shadowline trim after seeing the damage. Just have to get my back windows re-tinted because the trim is glued to them. No biggie. FYI never take your car to a 'touch less' car wash as mentioned previously in this post - I'm almost 100% confident their chemicals damaged it. And when 'little timmy' was wiping the car down, he probably missed the shadow trim (several times) and the sun baked it right in. I even drove to the car wash and had the owner look at it. He just played dumb (surprise). I'll stick to washing it with my own 2 paws from now on (heavily focusing on the trim). ![]() Thanks BMW for honoring the trim replacement! Now if you can just correct the defective trim we'll all be happy (coat trim with some type of a protectant). |

I'm assuming most worked by hand. I think it would be a bit difficult to use a buffer, even with a 4" pad. If necessary, there are pads to use for hand application that offer certain levels of cut like a machine pad. Again, that's if it's even necessary.

have other people used Meguiars Plast-X with excellent results? I happen to have this product on hand. I haven't subjected my brand new 135i yet to touchless car washes (do not plan to) so I'm wondering if maintenance is really that high on the shadowline trim if properly taken care of from the get-go?

Looking forward to this correction! Thank you for the sticky and information as this issue has been such a huge annoyance for me.
