any DIY on center armrest

So today when I lifted up the armrest to update my ipod I heard some change rattling around inside of it. When I open the top there are the two stupid trays with slots that clearly allow change to fall underneath them. I don't want to break any plastic tabs prying on this thing. Has onyone removed this tray? And while we're in there does anyone have any custom/aftermarket solutions to better use this space?

Garage List
I've taken mine apart to see if I could do it since the armrest bugs the hell out of me... I'll probably replace the entire armrest with a simple cover when I get around to buying it.

BTW, there's DIY instructions located here: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...hlight=armrest
