Diagnosing problems after DP's
I've been having this issue for some time now and I am in dire need of suggestions. I had JB4 installed and running well for several months on map 1. I installed VRSF catless DP's and began to run map 2. It ran perfectly for a few weeks, then I started to get codes, "service engine soon" light and sometimes "limp mode." Also, sometimes the car seems to stutter, as in jerk back and forth slightly as I am casually driving down the road. After it starts to act up, it is much more likely to continue to act up (After I clear the codes, it tends to run well for a while). Part of this includes a weird idle, it will randomly climb and then slowly fall back in place, sometimes rather roughly. I tried using map 2 and taking it easy, but still have issues. I ran map 1, same problem. I tried leaving it on stock map and it seems to be less likely to act up but still had the "service engine soon" light the other day just driving down the highway. I've replaced both pre-cat o2 sensors and the hpfp within the last month because I was getting those codes. I am still getting the same codes. One of the problems is that it doesn't always happen, some days it will be fine. I took it to BMW because finally the problem seemed to be occurring on stock map, leading me to think it was a hardware issue and not a tuning issue. I asked them to test my fuel pressure regulator because I was thinking it may be running rich. They said its within spec at 5.5 bar. Also, they blame it on the JB4.
The most likely situation in which limp mode occurs (big check engine light comes on and cuts all power) is when I wind out 3rd or 4th, not 2nd. This picture is of the codes I'm talking about, it has been the same codes almost every time I check (mostly running map 2): https://www.dropbox.com/s/c8u2kiueropurx7/IMG_0208.JPG This is the picture of the scan done at BMW, these are codes that came up while I drove stock map only: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hkozr51q4j...%20%288%29.JPG Mods are BMS DCI, OCC, JB4, VRSF DP's. I am so frustrated and basically out of ideas... Anybody have any suggestions? : |

I believe that you have your O2's installed incorrectly. I would take a look at this site http://www.penskeparts.com/DiagramsM...2&rnd=03192010 and make sure that you have all of the 02's in the correct bung with the correct wire.
Fuel and Lambda codes are probably seperate problems. |

I'm having the exact same issue for months now. Same codes. Would like to know what the issue is as well. What is your full exhaust setup? Also do you use a dp fix?
I've replaced front o2 sensors as well. Also reset lambda and AFR with no luck. Codes come back straight away.

Are you 100% certain they o2 sensors aren't the wrong way around? I took it to 2 workshops. One did the work on my car and they said it's not possible to put them the wrong way around and denied this possibility. The other workshop said they were the wrong way around. I've already payed to have 2 new o2 sensors put in. It's a pretty big job to change them around so have not looked into doing that yet.
I had a DP fix a while ago and since removed it, and I'm still having this issue.

I'm going to look into the O2 sensors tomorrow. If I do have to switch them, I think its ok to just switch where they are plugged in, the sensors are the same part number. Much easier than removing everything underneath to get to them.

Okay if you could give me an update after you've done them? I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

Not true, the JB4 just auto-clears any codes that come up. BMS does sell an O2 simulator that you can use to fool the ecu (and any OBDII tests) into thinking everything is ok and you can use it with the JB4.

Any updates on this? I remember the workshop saying the sensors could not be plugged the wrong way around because they don't reach each other ( I assume this is the case for the RHD). I will be really annoyed with them if that's the case though as it could have been fixed a long time ago.

I didn't get the chance guys.. I put the code autodelete ON on my jb4 and now at least it resets all the time so I won't have constant issues. When we did the DP's we did them in sequence. One first(including o2 sensors), then the other. There is no way we mixed them up. It's got to be something else

id turn off auto delete for the codes and figure out the issue.
if the ecu says "o2 sensors",then is most likely the issue. i would double check just so that you can you rule that out, as a potential problemo.

Checked today. Black cable is in the front DP and gray is on the rear. The black is the longer of the two as per Penske parts and RealOEM. I followed the black and it is indeed the one that travels a few inches longer to the connector on the driver side of the motor. This confirms they are installed correctly.

I am having the same issuse as you but a slight variation in codes. I am coming up with 2C9E(Lambda probe heating behind catalytic converter), and 29DC(Cylinder injection switch off). I am replacing one of my rear o2 sensors tonight hoping to fix the issue, but after reading your post I am not too confident it will. I am extremely frusterated with this situation as well, so please keep me posted if you figure anything out. I have raceland downpipes, jb4, aFe stage 2 sealed intake, and berk midpipe. Everything ran fine with my car for a few weeks and these issues came out of nowhere.
