Cracked rotors from track use
I posted video before of my improved lap times, but this time it was at the cost of my rotors. I switched pads and fluid but kept the stock rotors. Turns out that when you remove the weak pads, crappy fluid, and standard lines the rotors then become the weak point. I think pixelblue made some cooling ducts which had I done that would have eliminated some of the heat, but I failed to do that and now am stuck with a very costly fix.
For those just replacing pads and tracking your car beware the cross drilled rotors are very prone to cracking without some form of heat reduction. Live and learn I suppose. I am going to use it as an excuse to get a bbk, but damn that was an expensive lesson. Full Stoptech kit isn't in stock so I would have to wait 4-6weeks, so I am stuck with the Brembo's. |

It's more about 3-4 weeks wait. Stoptech comes in at a lower price point with very easy pad replacement(without removing the whole caliper). Replacement parts are also far less expensive and easier to get.

You're right way cheaper and every bit as good. The only thing is I need my car so I would have to replace the stock rotors, then wait. All four rotors are cracked so thats a grand to replace. Rental car for three weeks is way to expensive so I got the Dinan BBK in stock and my buddy is helping me on install cost.

Your gonna still wanna do some sort of cooling....anything is better than nothing.
Pixel's cut and bend mod works just great, you can also try doing my f30 backing plate conversion.. Note : i have slotted / crossdrilled BMW performance rotors for 1.5 seasons of tracking.. no cracks >>> (Mind you i have a 128 with lower top speed and lower gross weight ) FIRST PIC IS STOCK BACKING PLATE SECOND PIC IS STOCK PLATE WITH WHEEL INSTALLED THIRD PIC IS F30 PLATE FOURTH PIC IS F30 PLATE WITH WHEEL INSTALLED (Mind you wheel offsets my diminish "scoop" that sticks into air ... ymmv ![]()
