The LCDs use LEDs for back lighting. I use to change the LEDs in cellphones.

Thanks man. i figured that out once i got the unit apart. i made a DIY on doing this, check it out. i did a little more with customizing the faces while i had it apart. after i order more LEDs i'm going to do the same with all the other interior orange lights. let me know what you figure out with the radio. i was even thinking about just ordering an aftermarket head unit.

Quick question, is there a way to make the gauges blue like you did but leave the needles the red stock color? Such as the Mkv GTI's cluster.

On my cluster, no. The lights that light up the needles also light up the gauges. Might be some way around it but I don't see it.

Like 1Freak said , just the backlight LED..

Is the radio just like the LCD on the dash or is that a completely different more technical process? I need to do that!!! Waiting for more LEDs to do the rest of the cabin. Any tips on where I can order the LEDs in the states? Would rather buy here than china, which is where the others came from. God that looks awesome.

Yes the radio is just like the rest of the LED except the are the smaller (half-size)LED behind the button. For the LED I just order from my vendor at work but Im pretty sure its from china somewhere.

You wouldn't happen to know the part number for those smaller ones would you? I think the ones for the dash were 3528 SMD LEDs. Wanting to order them soon.

I'm doing an interior light conversion also but instead of blue, i'm using white LEDs. My question is, how did you determine the white writing for the stereo lights? Did you use white LEDs? Since i'll be change my interior lights to white, I don't want my stereo writing to bend in with the background color of white so I wouldn't see the writing.

Also, I have been talking with MuNkY6913 and I also want to know what size bulbs did you use for the stereo.

Does the steering wheel and other components use 3528 SMD LEDs also? or do they need smaller sizes?

What size LEDs did you use for the radio? So far i've done the AC unit, the gauge, and the fog light switch. The last thing is the radio!
