What I should do when dealer won't help?
So my brakes have been squeaking for a while now, and when I went to go get an oil change from my dealership, I told my SA about this. They said they'd check it out.
Few hours later they call me, and say that they tried to clean it up a little, but since my car says that my front and rear brake pads should work for the next x-thousand miles, there is nothing else for them to do. ...So that's where 1Addicts comes in What can I do to to stop the squeaking, without buying new parts? Forgive me, I'm not too savvy with brakes. ![]()

I would consider it, but my warranty is expiring on December 12th. That would make for 17 days of pretty annoying braking.

try another dealer or try calling BMW NA about the lousy service you have been getting.
Your gonna need need new brake rotors/pads/sensors - thats about a $750 job COD(when your paying). Should be free under warranty. And often the rear brakes are not far behind when the fronts are worn out. But when your front brakes start to squeak all the time... they are about half way worn out. Depending on how many miles on your car... you could also be due for new spark plugs(covered at 45K miles). You should also have an free oil change done, pollen filter and new wiper blades - all free under the warranty. G.L. Dack |

Any other recommendations? This has been an issue since before my warranty expired, but I'm still patiently dealing with the squeaking :/

I am dealing with same issue at my dealership. Complained twice about the squeaking brakes and they say they won't be able to replace them because it they are not worn out. Did you ever talk to BMWNA?

I'll be going to the dealership soon for regular maintenance and will ask them to look at them again. Lets see what they say

Let us know how it goes. This squeaking of the brakes is really, really, really, unbearable.

My breaks squeal like hell too.. But I thought that it might be because of the type of materials used in the brakes. I mean, the 135 has high performance breaks. When u go to a track and hear the race cars moving slowly in the pits, it's kind of the same thing isn't it?

I'm having it checked out at a reputable dealership on Friday. I'll post what they say.

Both the brakes and spark plugs are easy DIY. I would not bother with the dealer.
BTW, the squeaking in the brakes is due to a high frequency vibration caused when the brakes are not fully applied and not the pad against rotor. TO solve this you need to apply the anti-squeak compound that is commonly sold. So then, since you are going to replace the pads anyway make sure you apply the compound. And also make sure you apply the compound about 8 hours prior to the installation. This allows the compound to dry fully. I always do it the night before. |
