Do you think its worthwhile to order 130i/BMW x1 rotor for 128i as a maintenance?
I don't know when i will be able to do BBK of any kind
YES. 30mm of extra brake torque will be VERY noticeable

and not much more expensive, barely noticable i'd say

Contemplating how much to spend on Suspention, given that we drive just 128i/125i/130i and mainly on the street.

Has anyone overhauled suspension on a low end car like a Civic or smth?

Did you feel that it was the best use of up to $1500 for that car?

In my search for a cheap 330mm rotor from the 330i & 130i to test fit, i found the following.

http://forums.racingbrake.com/showthread.php?t=636

Should be of interest to anyone who tracks a 128i, just need to confirm the fitment of a OEM 330i rotor.

Lets compare specs:

E36 M3 vs E82 128i
3219lbs vs 3197lbs
240hp vs 230hp
6800rpm vs 7000rpm
5MT vs 6MT

Yup, we still come to the same conclusion. 128i is almost exactly a modern production E36 M3.

Hi all.

I posted on another thread but I find this one more on topic. If some of you read both, please forgive the double post.

Like The Stig above, I'm also an E36 M3 owner. It's actually my wife's daily driver. We've recently been considering a replacement and came to the same conclusion. As a former racer myself, handling is everything. 0 - 60 time is less important to me than say, 50 to 100 to stop.

As I say, it will be my wife's daily driver. I don't race anymore and don't intend to track the car so I see no need for all that turbo power however, when she does let me drive it, I don't care to drive a slug either. She's been spoiled by the M3 and regrettably, I've ridden through more than a few incidents were she truly needed the M brakes.

So, it appears that a 128i M sport is a good candidate but what are the options to upgrade the brakes? We'd probably order the car and pick it up in Munich and would be most interested in an upgrade that can be ordered with the car as delivered.

In lieu of that, is the BMW autographed model BBK kit a worthwhile add on?

I don't care to screw around with after market items that may or may not void the warranty and no longer enjoy working on cars (I'm now into antique airplane restorations) so any mods would have to be either dealer installed or at least dealer approved.

Thanks much,
A

BTW, 135ers.....I don't want to hear it. If I wanted a 135is, I'd buy one. I don't want one. I'm asking about brakes here and IF BMW offered a 125iS with better brakes, I'd buy one of those.

you can get the 128i BMW performance brakes, which are slightly better then the stock 135i ones. Or, you could go aftermarket with brembo or stop tech.

Is this a factory installed option? If so, I'd be much obliged if you'd provide the appropriate build code. Sales guys don't seem to know about it.

Primarily because we'll probably be taking Euro delivery and driving extensively over there I'd rather have the better brakes from the onset.

If this is an aftermarket install, can any Euro posters advise the easiest way to get that done directly after factory pick up? Perhaps through the delivery center?

Thanks,

A

It's not a factory option but it is a BMW part, it's part of their performance parts line.
http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp

i selected that for my car, but you can choose it for a newer year and convertible as well.

To address all your concerns you should order the 128i BBK from BMW Performance. Just understand that 17" wheels will not fit, to do so you will need to switch Rotors for the winter to stock 135i size. The rebuild kits for these brakes are pretty effective if they are ever damaged due to racing type of abuse.

125i brakes apparently are weaker in the rear(info from a thread regarding 135i bbk on 128i)

So is the k&n Apollo intake supposed to be a universal intake or something?

Yes, it is universal and need a MAF mount.

BTW, i liked how your AFE is painted. Did you experience the Surge or other issues with it like the people in e90Post? Someone even made washer/spacer for the MAF location to fix it a bit.

Yes, it did surge. I sold the intake before I even found out about the spacer, otherwise i would have kept it. About the K&N, which one would we need for it to work with our 128i?

2 options: permanent and not
Take your air box or used n52 airbox and cut out MAF mount attach to Apollo

Find some Chinese or other maf mount. I think I found an option but wont post it until i know it can work.

Fellow 128-ers I want to share with you that I sourced a Euro box from Sweeden for about 250 total. Cant wait to get it. I still need to get a filter thinking using afe pro dry in euro spec.

Used their version of car-part.com here: http://en.bildelsbasen.se/
and google translate
Contact them using their yard home pages and email links. The Inquiry button is almost like a Buy button, so be careful.

Shipping for items is in the range of 700 - 1600 SEK or 100-250 USD so contact multiple vendors.

From my searches, the website has exhaust manifolds, m3 parts, intake manifolds and air boxes. Just make sure the shipping justifies a used part.

Any particular reason you went with the eurobox over an aftermarket style intake? Just curious!

A few reasons.
- Recent e90 converted 325i showed only tourqe gains with Closed box Afe which retails for as much as new Eurobox
- Looked at various dynos of 130i on babybmw.net with expensive Simota and oem setups
- Looked at GruppeM and similar(bimmian autocarbon & ebay replica) dynos of e90's with the LET tune from waaayback 2010's. These are found under IvanX and his 330i and his freind. The oxes showed some of the nighest n52 dynos ive seen from the US
- Looked at open intakes ( Afe semi open, Ingen) and the Maf issues with the Afe version, and drone noise possibility from both

Decided the following
- I didnt want to spend over 300 for a closed box set up
- Didnt want to cut my OEM, not even the charcoal( probably a personal preference)
- Used USA OEM air boxes cost close to 300 on car-part.com, prices when up for some reason - maybe its demand from e90post
- Didnt care about carbon, it costs too much
- Wanted a way to access a filter easily especially if I was to clean it often
- After seeing gains of both HP & Tq with Simota/GruppeM, I wanted the option of having a semi open intake in the style of GruppeM or Simota. To cut up the Afe closed box would be expensive waste
- EvoGlynn of 130i fame cut up a eurobox to look like Simota and had it on dyno with total gains after a tune. It looked good considering he had Ron95 gas and his numbers looked close to 130i's on the same dyno with probably different gas( evolve tuned cars)
- for a max of $20 more I can replace the hose from the air box to the throttle body with a smooth silicone that would mimic Afe
- $40 more gets me scoops that are in the GruppeM package
- Can convert to BMP European intake if I find a really good deal on it

So went with the used Eurobox. Looking at the non oiled filter because I want to clean it with out buying recharge kits.

ah okay makes sense. I hated the clutter from the full box so i personally went with injen. Plus i absolutely love the intake sound. I managed a deal for $250 for my intake from some place on ebay.

Yeah, glad you like it.
And yes the Injen is on sale right now for 250 ish

I guess i wanted the option of quiet or loud...

My exhaust is loud at times and does have a bit of drone( although no one notices it but me) at the same rpm mentioned for drone for the open intakes. So i wanted to be cautious and preserve the current comfort

strangely enough i did notice the intake quieted my drone with my muffler delete pretty substantially. It still has drone it's just slightly muffled almost, though it's only at about 2k rpms other then that there's no drone at all.
