>>HP Autowerks<< Extreme Turbo Systems Intercooler for BMW 1M
The ETS intercooler Kit Features
-Full Intercooler Kit- Includes Intercooler, Charge Pipe, Couplers,Clamps -Direct Bolt on with absolutely no cutting -Replaces Restrictive Stock Piping -Max HP Gains of 21.05hp -Over 60deg Lower Temps -No Heat Soak after a Pull -Reduces Knock -Durable Stainless Steel Piping -4 Ply Silicone Couplers -Breeze Premium T-Bolt Clamps ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -Stock system has an accordion hose at the inlet. This hose will create turbulence because of the ribbed design. -ETS Solution- Extend the inlet tube to reach the stock turbo outlet pipe and use a straight, smooth silicone coupler. -90deg bend at the intercooler outlet is restrictive to flow. -ETS Solution- Split the sharp 90deg bend up into a 60deg and a 30deg bend. This still makes a 90deg turn, but is not as sharp as the stock 90deg hose. This allows for better airflow post intercooler. -Plastic Pipe has restrictive dimples protruding into the airstream. -ETS Solution- Use a Stainless Steel mandrel bent pipe that is uniform inner diameter throughout it's length improves flow as well. Price is $770 + shipping. Multiple options for intercooler anodizing, core thickness and piping color. http://hpashop.com/Extreme-Turbo-Sys...ler-e82-1m.htm |

Harold,
Turbo newbie questions. Will adding a larger intercooler increase turbo lag? I've read some posts that suggest that they're great for power but can increase lag.. Is a tune necessary to get any benefit (other than keeping engine cooler)? Still deciding which tune to use. Does the tune help the lag if it's there? Sorry for so many questions. David |

Although the IAT's will be lower with this ETS IC, there is no power gains at stock boost levels. We have done back to back to back testings on stock software with no gains on a dyno, but seat of the pants said there is something. Since there is no lag with this IC you don't need to tune to correct it, but rather to give you a bit more power throughout the powerband. GIAC has a really good flash with excellent street manners, developed after hours of testing using my 1M, it's a full release, not just a beta. We can flash your ECU if you send it to us or flash at your location as I am in the Bay area often. If you are not ready for an intake, I recommend at least a high flow drop-in filter with any stage 1 flash tune for best results. |

Thanks Harold. Helpful. Planning on cold air intake but holding out to see if DINAN releases it's fully enclosed system that gets air from outside the engine compartment. I have the Mad Dad with stock exhaust. Do you think I will need a stage 1 or stage 2 tune with upgraded intake?
