Dilemma
135i now or wait for the 2 series? This is driving me nuts. Have wanted a 135i pretty much since it came out. Finances are right at the moment. But it will be superceded in approx 12 months. I don't need to get a car now. So it's a case of known vs unknown. I hate the looks of the M135i so it's out. Could the 2er be as bad?

I probably wouldn't get a new one just because of the value drop, but it's perfect timing to get a 2nd hand one, it's a great buyer's market.
We have no idea what the 2 series is like - what if you don't like it? I'd get one now and enjoy it. |

go for the 135i if you like it. the 2er will have a decently long run; the 1 series coupes went on from 08 til now, so plenty of time to switch later on if it catches your fancy

No to E82, too dated now. M135i all the way. Else buy a used 135i, definitely don't buy a new one.

I wouldnt wait for anything if you're keen on buying. I am picking up my own 135i Coupe new in under a week. I figured I loved the shape, the way it goes and the wide range of mods available, why wait for a car to be unveiled, put into production and then delivered for another year and a half at least. You're probably looking at a 2014 delivery for a '235' coupe and there are no guarantees you will like the look as much regardless if the E82 is 'dated'. It's all a matter of preference. There is always something better coming out so if your heart is in the 135i, buy it now and ignore the fact that there might be a new model coming out. Besides, its not going to be your final car purchase im sure. Finish your finance enjoy for 3-4 years then buy a 235i mid lifecycle if you think you like it.....perhaps even a '2M'

I have purchased many BMW's from new and all I can say is I'm done buying the just released version and will wait for the LCI facelift version. Much less warranty dramas to deal with. There are many arguments for and against but it becomes very much a subjective matter and easy to procrastinate forever. Today you might think about waiting for the new 2 series but when it's out you could also make an argument to wait for the LCI. Then why not wait till the new - new 2020 model.

what he said, regardless of what you get you will not be happy in 3 months. and I also agree with whoever said never buy the first model thats the beta test, let someone else find the bugs and then buy the 'updated' model.

Most 2er are going to be RWD not FWD. FWD for the new gen 1er and the Mini based BMW sub brand.

Andrew, when i test drove a 135i in May, after 5 minutes i knew i could not live another second without owning one.
I know BMW will bring out something bigger, brighter, better, faster, more awesome next year or the year after, but, who cares. Life is way too short to wait. |

If you prefer hydraulic power steering you should get a 135i coupe now! I would get either new or second hand and also consider a used 335i. Maybe you could hold off until you see pictures of the 2 series coupe, just in case you are going to feel bad when you see other new model 2 series on the road.
Seriously the 135i isn't a perfect car - it has flaws such as floaty suspension issues and interior layout issues such as seating/dashboard position and glare from interior. Still I wouldn't count on BMW making anything better unless you will spring the money for a M division car. |
