At work I park my car in the basement parking lot. Large, all concrete, no openings...cold start is unx$#ing believable. Throaty, burbling, echoing, sputtering. Nothing but goodness in large doses. I ALWAYS start the car with the door open so I can hear it at full volume. Puts a on my face no matter how the day went. You'd think you were in the paddock at a race track.

Sorry to hear that. MJC until recently used to write about his AW 135. Time is precious, so I only read the columns of those authors that have like vehicles of mine, and just graze the columns of the others hoping they mention the same.

How is the 1 comparing to your E46?
Hard to compare because they are different animals. Plus I've adjusted suspension on both.

E46 with hr sways and springs with Bilsteins sports. Square tire set up.
Handles awesome. Minimal understeer. Firm with no roll. Smooth, quiet.

E82 with eibach and bmwp springs, 235/245 tires setup, Dinan camber plates.
Very fast turn in with no under steer and of course power oversteer that the e46 can't deliver. Seems to roll a bit more than the hr sways. Also softer than the Bilsteins. Seriously considering putting them on. I had them on order but they went on back order and I decided to install the other suspension parts without them. Kind of regretting it now.

I wouldn't worry much about the red being overwhelming or too much. I received nothing but compliments. BMW did a great job with the coral red color. It isn't easy to convey the color in photos but it's stunning in person.

That's a very, very handsome combo right there!

Here's my suggestion for mods, but since your tastes may vary take them with a grain of sugar:

(1) BMW Performance diffusor - Exhaust tips stick out too far; not really a fan of CF, but you can have a reputable paint shop paint it in either gloss (if you want it to match the mirrors) or matte. You could also go with body color, but imo that would be too much. You need something to contrast with the Space gray. Many would consider it sacrilegious to paint over CF, but its your car so do what is best your own eyes. I painted over the CF CSL trunk and never regretted it (see below). Too much CF looks goofy, and too showy imo.

(2) BMW Performance spoiler - I didn't do it on my 135 obviously because I went with the CSL trunk, but if you do get the Performance diffusor treat the spoiler in the same scheme so they complement one another.

(3) Shadowline or matte front grills - I'd go shadowline to complement the mirrors.

(4) Performance side skirts

(5) Debadge

I think BMW should have had some or all of 1 - 4 as standard equipment to further set the 'is' apart from the garden variety 135, but for some reason they never bothered to ask me.

And as an oh-by-the-way, I'm sure you know that BMW CCA is running a special for December on Performance parts at 10% above invoice.

Just something to pass on to that special loved one(s) in your life so they don't have to guess what to give you.

Even as is though, it's a great looking vehicle. Props again!

The new 'is' models are amazing.
The headlights are quite refreshing from the previous version.

Same Here with my 1M. Another favorite is to drive around in parking garages in first gear (don't shift to second) - you should try it!

Spent the day doing the 5 boro tour yesterday. Have to say the 1er is a fantastic city car (except for the low profile wheels). Small, agile, and the power to beat out the cabbies. Bonus: Driving through the tunnels with the PE. Total eargasm.

Absolutely, I also sent off some car alarms when I drove through a parking garage.
