That being said, I have seen a few diesel trucks absolutely destroy some seriously fast cars on the highway. I remember cruising with the guys from supraforums a few years ago and one of their friends had a Ram 1500 diesel that had a few things done to it. They make ungodly amounts of torque and were keeping pace with/beating 500-600hp Supras. But of course, trucks that quick are very few in numbers.

Still I bet around 120mph the limiter would kick in, i cannot see these trucks doing more than that.

I think the massive torque of the diesel trucks are what make the owners "think" they are so fast. I'm on my 5th Super Duty diesel and can honestly say if "feels" fast, but really isn't.
And about the smoke...all new diesel vehicles sold must be equipt with particulate filters and/or urea exhaust injection systems. The new diesels burn EXTREMELY clean. My 2012 has 40K miles and the tailpipe looks as if it was brand new.

Then I was talking to one of the senior execs here at work who's got a new M5 and he says people are always trying to race him too. Seriously, how many cars do you think he encounters on a daily basis are actually faster than his M5? I'm guessing .0001% but that doesn't stop people from trying.
