Ideas on my Space Green 128
In another post told about my 5 day old car being hit. Now I have an issue with the body shop. The new paint is green. It is not even close to the correct color. My daughter works at the BMW dealer that has it in their body shop. I stopped by today to check on progress, since they know me they took me back to see my car. It's green as soon as I seen it. They are claiming its the lights.
Had my daughter go and look at it without telling her about the issue and she text me. "LOL it's green." She then told one of the mechanics about it (a great employee and friend) he said it will be worse in the daylight. The car looks horrible on the repaired passenger side but beautiful on the factory drivers side. How am I going to keep this from blowing up into a mess. My daughter and my sisters boyfriend, a couple of friends work here. I don't know how they can fix this now. The whole thing will have to be taken apart and repainted. I have read that the Space Gray is very hard to match. Ideas, anyone experience anything like this before.

Eeek, sorry to hear about that... Hopefully it'll get sorted.
I guess that one of the reasons I've always avoided metallic paints.

Three. Said to blend the color they went from the edge of the front fender, the new door and to the back edge of the quarter panel. So 90% of the passenger side.
Thinking about it last night I am sure even they will notice it today. The door handle was not on and it comes painted from the factory. This will stand out bad. The gray handle in the middle of the green door.

How did the body shop match the paint? Do they have a hand held scanner that samples the pain on the car? They should. Its a small device that reads the reflective values of the paint. Because no two cars are the same color.
Btw... I have never heard that SGM is hard to match/paint. I have heard that of the "Cashmere Silver"(Gold-ish) color though! Silver is also hard to match. I think the painter just mixed up(no pun intended! lol) the weights of the paint mix - before he sprayed your paint. Get them to re-do their work! You bought a grey car not a GREEN one!! ![]() |

Thanks. I will ask how they do the paint match. I just figured they typed in the BMW color code. I know they will repaint. The big issue is another week with my new car. I will now need a loaner due to the rental is due back and its not the other party's issue.
This will be a delicate time due to friends and my daughter. Hope everyone can see the green and this not be an issue.

I am surprised that common sense didn't kick in as the painter was mixing his colors or looking at them prior to paint.

More info on car. Was just told that a new guy mixed and painted my car. The main paint guy told the manager that the color was off. So after I stopped in, I guess they went and blended the hood in with the ugly green. Again no work on car today., they want me to think they are repainting. They hope I won't notice.
Anyone looking to hire a great worker. My daughter my lode her job if they want to take this out on her. I know I am steaming just thinking about it.

Whatever you do keep your cool and try to talk it out with a manager or owner. Stay calm and collective and things should work out.

Sorry to hear that... sounds like a delicate situation. As another suggested, ask to speak with the owner/manager. This should have nothing to do with your daughter. Hopefully she wont lose her job over it, if she does then shes better off not working there. |

Wow, thats pretty intense....
In your shoes, I would have never accepted that my brand new car gets several coats of respray on it, moreover I would really properly inspect every panel before taking it back. Bring an auto detailing specialist with you if you know one. Sorry to say but nothing beats factory OEM paint. |

Dealer called and said they will have car ready tomorrow around 3. I finally get my baby back. It has been at the body shop longer then at my house.
I guess it will like getting a new car again. Yea me. I hope everything is right, dealer closes Friday and won't reopen until the 26th. I am leaving for the beach house for Christmas and want to drive my new car. Please Santa make sure it is done and done right.
