DIY Request: M5 Shift Knob Installation
I just received my M5 light up shift knob but am having trouble finding a spot for the connecter on the 1M. I already removed the trim around the shifter so I can get back to it as soon as I have an answer.
Is there a proper place to plug-and-play with this or do I need to start hacking and splicing wires? I would prefer not to have to cut any wires but will make do with what I have. I've already searched around and couldn't find a definite answer to the installation. Any help is most appreciated. ![]() Will post photos as soon as I get it to light up! ![]()

Never mind. I installed this the easy way instead. I'll post photos tomorrow.

That might be normal, kind of like how the gear indicator stays lit up on an automatic. Did you wait 60-90 seconds to see if it turns off?

You need to tap into dimmed lighting. It sounds like you picked a constant hot wire.
If you don't have the ashtray to get the dimmed wiring off the lighter, the easiest place would be to pull it from one of the HVAC controls. |

Any updates? I also bought the M5 knob at local BMW dealer and am waiting until I totally understand how to do this as I don't want my console tore apart for miles on end....
