135i owner from cumbria

Hi all

Finally got myself a 135i, only had it an hour lol and have not yet seen it in daylight eeeek

All seems well, it was a risky purchase (and still is tbh) did a deal with a guy over the phone and did a few checks with the bmw computer and HPI.

Anyway its arrived home (in law picked it up this morning on his truck) and it drives spot on tho tbh it feels gutless but then coming from a mapped 335d most things will, i think i need to learn to use all the revs again, got too lazy with the 525lbs ft of torque....

Anyone from cumbria??

having a little meet with some freinds on the 24th of november and going for a jaunt either up hartside or up to the borders if anyones interested.

Congrats on the purchase. A little fettle will help things along as its a lighter car than the 3.

Get yourself along to babybmw, good crowd and a few meets throughout the year.

Hi jamier27,

I used to own a 135i. WRT the power/TQ figures you need JB4. Transforms the car. I got ~400 bhp from just the older JB3 with K&N drop-in (99 octane of course).

Enjoy the car.

I now have the BMWP discs just needing to shop about for some pads.

What map did you use to get circa 400bhp on the jb4? I am pressuming 2 or 5?
Did you use she'll v power on map 5??

I have a warranty to abide by at the moment..

jamier27,

On the older JB3 I was running map 5 or 7 (yes 7) without issue. Car was insane.

I only ever use Tesco Momentum99. BTW this was also recommended by MRC, who mapped my current TTRS.

WRT the JB3/4, just take it out for the services ( I had the 135i from new and was using JB3 from 3 months in). I only ever had to do this 2-3 times over 3 yrs, so not a major chore and you do get good at it. I got the removal /re-install down to 20 minutes.

Enjoy the car, just take it easy on our salt ridden greasy roads.

Thanks for your reply mad.

So much to learn and take on board with the n54.

I am getting the disks and pads fitted saturday and will get some photo's up.

I am getting married next year otherwise i would be spending a number of pennies on the car

jamier27,

I think JB4 comes in at ~£300 from the US. You will have to pay import duty unless you can source in the UK. Best £300 you'll ever spend IMO, but I can understand that priorities can/are changing.

Be good to see the car when you get some picks up.

Cheers,

Mad.

Thanks..
Still have warranty to abide by so no tuning yet ..

Brakes are good tho It seems I need braided hoses as they started to loose bite after downhill sections so either hoses or maybe OEM brembo pads are not up to it?!

Just noticed you have a ttrs? I love those and am truly amazed at the performance figures from that engine specially after exhaust and map (similar gains to 135i) but with the s - tropic and 4wd its ridiculously quick !

Hi jamier27,

I think braided hoses and uprated pads would def do the trick.

WRT the RS, yep this car is pretty amazing, especially as the engine is only 2.5 L. I have manual, but a few over on the Audi forums have S-tronnic with S1/2 re-map and get 0-100 mph ~7.5 secs (with launch control, of course). The manual is no slouch though.

I do miss my 135i, even without JB3, it still boosts more cleanly from ~500 rpm lower in the rev range that the RS. Having said that, you can use all of the power of the RS more of the time as it's Quattro (Haldex, anyway). My S1 re-map on it's own gave 413 PS/604 Nm TQ (see below if interested).

Going back to your car, I really wouldn't worry about getting the JB4 installed. When it's removed there really is no trace at all and the dealer never suspected a thing over 2-3 service visits (I would inform your insurance though - it only made ~£50 difference to my annual bill, so not too bad at all). If you do go down this route, probably best to wait until cold weather has passed as I remember spinning up the rears on numerous occasions at the top of 3rd gear in the 135i with JB3 (map 5/7).

Enjoy the car and cheers,

Mad.

I will no doubt own a ttrs at some point, they are such a competent car!

Got jb4, wheels refurbed and BMWP spoiler on now

Totally transformed the cars performance! Though pretty hairy at this time of year but looking forward to the summer to enjoy its performance.

Excellent - I agree 100% with your comments. I remember a while back, I was able to keep up with an E60 M5 in my 135i till 140 with just the JB3. My wife wasn't very pleased with me though. Roll on next year and it could be time for me to return to the dark side. The official images of the new M3 in Car magazine look very nice.

Not had any chance to compare against anything serious yet just a friends Megane 265 running a supposed 337bhp but that was no match.

You thinking of getting new M3.. ?

What engine is that using? I understand its similar layout to 135i.....

Those Megane's are pretty quick when mapped and they only weigh @ 1340 kg. I think a stock 135i or even stock manual TTRS would be pretty even IMHO to a mapped Megane.

Yep, the M3, when it comes out, is def an option but I'm not sure I can pull the trigger on a 60K car (with a few choice options, of course). I think a 9 month/year old example could be a better option financially speaking.

I believe the new M3 will be an N54 and only 3 L's. This is what the latest article in Car are saying.

Enjoy the jb4 and I hope these greasy roads improve some time soon
