M3 Rear Subframe bushing swap.......
Guys,
I spent this weekend busting my ass installing the M3 subframe bushings. The tool I used was this one http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...33%36%20Models which I got through Amazon.com. Cheaper than Pelican to include shipping. I mainly used this thread for reference http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347156 because he used the same tool although it wasn't really necessary to bend the tabs on the front bushings to remove them. You do have to disconnect the brake lines though so you can lower the subframe enough in the front to install the front bushings. The rears were easy to remove but a bit tedious to install while the fronts came off and on easy. I will tell you though, you have to have patience (ALOT) and strenght to do this on your own like I did as David (That1guy) can tell you as he came by yesterday by the house. Now, I have the tool if you would like to do this "adventure" make sure that you have a peaceful weekend to do this in, to include the tools. If you would like to use the bushing tool I have no problem letting others using it and I can help you do this for a very small fee, but whoever it is, you're doing the hard work. ![]() I also have the brake bleeder bottle to do the brakes with just in case. ![]() So, if you would like to do this please let me know in ADVANCE so the wife doesn't kill me. After this job.......I really miss my old E30. Doing those bushings were a breeze. ![]()

Nick having my BMW Zentrum install my M3 bushings was well worth the 300 euros they charged me! I do not regret it at all. You will really like the way the car will drive now. The rear suspension will feel so much more planted and solid. And the front suspension will work now that the rear isn't constantly moving around when you go over a bump or dip/man hole cover in the road.
Dackel's replacement of rear suspension OE bushings with M3 ones… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...1#post11189793

I don't think he has actually attempted to drive it yet, cause he is still working on his G5 board. But, Dackelone has also done this same mod and he said it is a huge difference and he loves it!

It is just hard to imagine how those small 4 pieces of rubber transforms the car. Can't even imagine... So it is interesting to hear everybodys experience... Where is the cheapest place to get them? |

Not sure about where to buy them. Could probly do a search through the forums and see if anyone else has posted.
I am sure Elsabor will be back on early in the morning tomorrow, so I would just check back for his reply.

I almost always buy my parts from my dealer bc they always give me 20% off their retail price plus I don't have to pay the GErman VAT +19% sales tax (MwsT). The parts come the very next day and I always know I am getting teh real deal - and not some knock off part. These four rear bushings really transform the way the car drives. There is really no down side to them - than a slightly harder ride on rough cobble stone roads. But on pavement the ride is the same. The steering works so much more precisely and the rear end doesn't squirm around. No long will you need to avoid man hole covers or rough pavement on the road... the car just soaks that stiff up now. And the rear end is MUCH more solid and you can trust that the rear end won't step out when you go WOT in mid corner. Dack

Dack, if they are 68 now that would be 358 right now, so HPA might be the better option. If that is before VAT is taken off then they should be about 57euro each which is right at 300usd right now. |

I got mine through them last year when I was planning on doing this. Shipping was quick. I'll be setting up the G5 tonight and this weekend should be able to give my impressions about the change.

I have a set sitting in my closet, just looking for a shop to install them.
My local go-to guy for this type of thing wouldn't even quote me a price. ![]()

Im figuring that these will be a better thing to do at the of the coilovers than the front M bits. Will probably hold off on those and do those down the road instead of in the post deployment spending spree. |
