BMW M135i vs BMW 1M: Performance Stats

Not that anyone would care too much, but 3.1L/100km difference for an extra 15kw/50nm seems a bit high? or is that normal for that performance gain?

Even though its not dct but the new gearbox is lightning quick ! Almost seems like dct shifting!

The ZF8 speed automatic in the M135i pretty much shifts as quick as the DCT 135i Coupe I test drove. DCT downshifts multiple gears better than the M135i from what I experienced.

Anyways, I hope the M2 isn't a limited run like the 1M. I'd also like to see a unique M engine in it, rather than a chipped version of the standard one.

Limited? 300 cars isn't that limited, you can still get one new if you have the cash.

Reigns, I appreciate you are not as travelled on this site as some of us but there are a few differences between the stock N55 drive train and the 1Ms, more than just a "chip"

Ah ok. N54 in 135i next to N54 in 1M. Lightened flywheel, bigger intercooler, chipped up power output. Am I missing anything? Drive train there are a heck of a lot of differences no doubt about that!

Same intercooler. Different high flow downpipes, dual mass fly wheel, tune, aux radiator... and most important, a 'go faster' ///M badge engine cover.

So many 1M haters here

Suggest that 1M owners or anyone who has access to a 1M, should take a spirited test drive in the M135i and post your observations between the 2.

From my hands and butt, they are 2 quite different handling cars notwithstanding the close numbers and it's really horses for courses.

And if you aren't convinced about the fugly looks of the M135i (compared to the 135i or 1M), pop in to Trivett Classic. There's a M135i, sitting next to a new VO 1M and 135i.

Key point here is N55 vs N54. Don't think there are many 1M haters. Some people just don't understand M. They are just not M enough. lol

I don't think there are too many 1M haters. It's a special vehicle but people are naturally surprised and impressed with the good numbers M135i is churning ... in the same way we were impressed with 1M v M3.

It's great that the forum has been livened up by the addition of another good vehicle which should take our discussions into the 2 series and M2.

Can't wait for the M2!

M135 is fantastic... If it wasn't for the looks, I'd definitely want one. Wait for the facelift in 6 months though. AWD 3 door would be great if was coming to Oz!

I had a good drive in it. Better balanced and poised IMO to the point that even my missus has a chance of driving it quick. I guess that's why the 1M is called a driver's car.

One is track focused, the other is not.

Spend a few $k on suspension, LSD and a tune and the M135i should be very good on the track. As a street/DD car the M135i seems like a better choice.
